Subject: Songs by Martin Graebe online From: Martin Graebe Date: 07 Sep 08 - 06:12 PM I have now republished the selection of songs that appeared in my 1999 song book 'Jack in the Green and other heroes' on our website, www.martinandshan.net - go to 'Martin's Songbook'. You will find the best-known of my songs there, such as 'Jack in the Green', 'Stonecracker John', 'From Severn, by the Somme', and several others there. They are in the Sibelius Scorch format that allows you to view the sheet music, play the tune and print the song. If you haven't used Scorch before you will be directed to download a small (and safe!) plug-in which will enable you to view the music. I do still have a few copies of the paper version of the book at a give-away prices if anyone prefers that format (contact me via the website) - but the versions on-line are free to all. Best wishes Martin https://martinandshan.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Jack-in-the-Green-1.pdf |

Subject: RE: Songs by Martin Graebe online From: Joe Offer Date: 28 Feb 21 - 06:21 PM Are these lyrics complete and correct? PETER'S PRIVATE ARMY (DT Lyrics) (Martin Graebe) Number one is Peter Dunn, His arm blown away by a big French gun, It's him our little band does lead, With a money bag tied to his sleeve. Tip tap tip, hop and skip, It's Peters Private Army. Number two is Peg-leg Hugh, His dancing done since Waterloo, With his fiddle tucked beneath his chin, He'll wave his stump to beat the time. Number three is Blind Jack Bree, Lost both his eyes in the Kings Navy, But still his squeeze box he can play, And the notes roll out like an ocean bay. Number four is Harry Taw, Caught a bullet in the throat in the peninsular, But he's wind enough on his pipe to toot, He can say as much as we although his voice is mute. Number five is Mad Jim Ives, It's hard too tell by looking if he's dead or alive, But when he hears the fiddle thrum, He'll beat like hell on his big skin drum. And so we're marching off again, You'll hear us playing down the lane, And we hope that you'll be kind to us, 'Cos we did as much for you in the country's cause. Number five is Mad Jim Ives, Number four is Harry Taw, Number three is Blind Jack Bree, Number two is Peg-leg Hugh, Number one is Peter Dunn, It's Peters Private Army. Copyright Martin Graebe From singing of Johnny Collins @Army @soldier @English filename[ PETEARMY AG apr97 Need to verify these: Verse 1 Now people come and gather round, Though our coats are ragged and our faces brown. You see we are no common band, at the call of our country we all did stand. |
