Yes you are right Gerry, but, a lot of people go to sing and play in sessions, and these were very thin on the ground on Saturday afternoon, the trouble with Otley is [ and I love this little market town ] it is short of venues, pubs are the natural place for sessions but when there is a band on a session would clash, in previous years I can remember sessions in [ almost ] every pub in the town.

So your solution is for the organisers of this folk festival to organise it somewhere else where there are more venues so the people who (probably mostly) aren't purchasing tickets for the festival can go and have a good time.

At a guess I would say it is unlikely to happen.

I offer no solutions, I was merely making a comment, thank you very much for your concern.

It sounds like the Whitby charity shops for the Goth weekends, their displays are wonderful. I'll make sure I take a look at the Oxfam shop in Otley next year.

Or Whitby charity shops for Folk Week, they get out their 'folk' LPs, Hippy clothes and instruments.

Glad yo enjoyed Copper Kettle Aeola as I am now half of that duo and have been for the last eighteen months. we had a great time as always at Otley.

re :-Sessions
Unfortunatey there have been a number of venues lost which makes the session side harder to encourage yet few of those walking round looking for sessions took the opportunity of starting one that I am aware of . In the past when faced with lack of sessions I have and word soon gets round if it is worth joining in.
I've also noticed this percieved lack of sessions at other festivals this year, very often the fringe of a festival can be the making of a festival and organisers ignore them at their peril

one of the resons we booked String Theory (Barnsley Folk Club stalwarts and house band) was to get sessions going and to encourage others to join in.

I think the organisers can do no more to get sessions going. It's up to the punters now

:-)

Gerry :-)

as a member of string theory I can say that both sessions we were booked for(saturday and sunday)ended up with a good number of people joining in. we found no problems finding sessions on friday night.
