Subject: Seattle, the Peerless City From: Haruo Date: 15 Sep 08 - 02:23 PM Fred Maslan and Raffi and I are gearing up for next year's NW Folklife Festival. The focus will be the 100th anniversary of Seattle's first World's Fair, the 1909 Alaska-Yukon Exposition, and since this will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the publication and adoption of Seattle's official city song, Seattle, the Peerless City. A couple years ago when I unearthed this gem and it was performed at a Seattle Folklore Society event, there was a fair amount of discussion of it in a thread here at the Mudcat, but it appears that that thread, which documented the songs rise from the obscurity of generations into the bright light of the 21st century, has fallen out of memory itself, so we are left with our imperfect memories of how it came to be. Is there some sort of mirror site or archiving site or something that might still have a trace of our previous discussion? Oh, never mind, the Lyrics & Knowledge Search engine brought up nothing, but Google knew where to find it. Haruo |
