Looking for lyrics of labor song that is to tune of "Would you rather wish on a star?" Verses end with "or would you rather be a scab?," "or would you rather be a goon?" etc. and continue "a scab is an animal...", "a goon is an animal..." Must've seen this in Sing Out! years ago. If you know the lyrics and can help, please email me at cdeemer@teleport.com Thanks, Charles Deemer

Don't know the lyrics, but I can suggest a few places to look. Rise Up Singing has a lot of songs that appeared in Sing Out. The Folksinger's Wordbook has a section or two of related songs. Pete Seeger put out a book called Carry It On during the Reagan era that is nothing but labor songs.

Good Luck, Chet W.

I'd like to find this one, too.

Okay, I've located it on page 13 of John Greenway's American Folksongs of Protest. I'll type it in later tonight, if this infernal device manages to behave. Right now it's freezing up on me every time I click on a link (blue clicky thing). F'rinstance, once I submit this one, I'm probably gonna have to reboot. As Joe Camp, a Kansas wheat farmer I once harvested for, used to say (as he kicked the stern of the 1931 John Deere tractor we were working with): "Golderned machine critter anyhow!" Didn't make it run much better, but may have satisfied his soul a little.

Decided to put it in as one of those "LYR ADD" threads. May make it easier to locate.
