Subject: Lyr Add: LIKE BOB DYLAN, WE ARE ALL AGING (parody)
From: Genie
Date: 17 Sep 08 - 09:22 PM

This parody was written to commemorate Bob Dylan's 60th birthday.

LIKE BOB DYLAN, WE ARE ALL AGING

Tune: The Times, They Are A-Changing
Lyrics: Sonja W. Oates

Come all of you boomers, at work or at home,
And admit that the distance around you has grown,
And accept it that time will soon ravage your bones.
Since time to you now is racing,
Then you'd better start jogging or you'll soon weigh a ton,
Like Bob Dylan, we are all aging.

Come, all couch potatoes who sit on your cans
(Which makes your butts wide), youth will not come again.
Seems you've peaked too soon, as the clock's hands still spin
And there's no doubt it's you that they're claimin',
And you're losing the games you once used to win --
Like Bob Dylan, we are all aging.

Come, grey-haired guitarists, please don't lose heart,
But now it's your music that won't make the charts,
And you'll eas'ly get hurt when you try to play sports.
There's a battle inside and it's ragin'.
It'll soon shake your dentures and rattle your joints --
Like Bob Dylan, we are all aging.

Come, grannies and grandfathers, throughout the land,
And admit it is you now who don't understand
Those pesky teenagers -- who lack common sense!
And your old body's rabidly aching.
So get out your walker if you need it to dance -
Like Bob Dylan, we are all aging.

The lines, they are growing, just like your ass.
You're the slow one now where you used to be fast,
As the promising future is now in the past.
Your hair, it is rapidly fadin'.
And the first hairs to fall will not be the last --
Like Bob Dylan, we are all aging.

Alternate last verse:

The lines, they are growing, just like your ass.
You're the slow one now where you used to be fast,
And the stories you tell, they're from long in the past.
The thoughts, they are rapidly fading
As you try to remember just what you did last --
Like Bob Dylan, we are all aging.

Thanks, Genie, for posting this one

I believe I composed a similar one several years ago but I can't seem to find it.

Curious...

That's very good!

Will go well in the "Grumpy Old Man Folk Anthology".

Someone should probably add above, as "related threads":

Lyr Add: Like a Kindey Stone (parody)

Two very recent if not current threads I read yesterday or the day before...

Let's not forget the parody tribute to Tom Paxton on his 60th:
I Don't Know What Was The Last Thing On My Mind

Acorn4 -
Just to point out that the incomparable John Conolly has just released a CD "The Grumpy Old Men of Old England". A hoot! (available from CAMSCO, of course)

Naw...we need an antidote to this sort of thing, Genie. We need more songs by hot young dudes that say in so many words:

"I'm an arrogant young sex god who is totally cool, and I really pity anyone who isn't young and cool like me. Old people are soooooooo out of touch! I just makes me want to, you know, like, scream or something. Only I can't because I'm, like, to bored to bother. You know? Man I hope I never get old. Eew! I hope I die before I get old, to quote that bunch of old farts in that band "The Who". Whatta buncha losers! But...well, Led Zeppelin are still cool. They rock!"

Let's have more stuff like that, eh? Who wants to hear about arthitis, big bellies, falling hair, and Dr. Scholl's arch supports?

p.s. - I'm joking!

He's doing great for a man of 69. Still touring, for gosh sakes! And he doesn't look a day over 102. ;-D

You're so right, Hawk.

OldHippie, I've never recorded it - just sung it at a couple late night song circles. But now that I have a webcam on my 'puter and we have these here internets and youse tubes, I can prolly just do what Janie calls a "field recording" of it and share it.

Of course, you guys all know the tune, so any of you can record it if you like. I don't think Bob would mind (and if he does, do we care?).

I'm also not happy with some of the lines in the parody (which is probably why I haven't sung it more), so feel free to embellish, improvise, revise, etc.
