Hello everyone

I remember a song that came on a top ten program in the 1983-85. The song or the performers have the word 'soleil' or a similar word. the song has been translated in the program and it talks about a man who drawned in the sea or the ocean. I think the lyrics ends in each line with the negative word 'pas' in French. Something like:

"ou wit you malo malo rit pas" or
le mer ne rit pas.

Mistaanis, we don't have much to go on there... You'd be referring to the charts in what country ? Might be one way to narrow down the search.
The line you cite sounds a bit Creole (mix of French and a lot of other bits spoken in the islands of the Carribean under French influence - Martinique / Guadeloupe / Haiti... )

Then, of course, there's a port in Brittany (I think - strike me down Normandy, if it's not) called Saint Malo..

Can you come up with any more of it to help us ?

It's Manuréva by Alain Chamfort.You can see it sung on YouTube

Manuréva (tahitian word meaning travel bird = plane) was the name of French sailor Alain Colas' boat. Alain Colas disappeared during the Route du Rhum on 16th Nov. 1978. The song is about his disappearance.

Oh my god, I am so sorry to forgot to tell you that I don't speak french at that time. That's why I said it sounds like, but not the same words. To pin point it, it is:

1- from the 1983-85.
2- I heard it on RMC (Radio Monte Carlo) The top ten Hits program.
3- It is a disco rythem.
4- The first to the third line, with the third line has the extended pas or va, and they (SOUND LIKE in French).

'Oh, ?oui ?tou ma ?lou ma ?lou ?rit (va or pas).
....?...?J'amie ?n'arit (va or pas).
....?...?......(va or pas)aaah..aaah..aaah..aaah..aaah.


5- I don't know where to find the top French hits of the 1980-90 where I could remember the name of the group or the song.
