Subject: BS: Penguiculum and other neat Dx words From: Mrrzy Date: 25 Sep 08 - 10:34 AM OK, the strange pseudopodous thingie growing on my eyeballs is called a penguiculum, which I gather is either a little penguin or a penguin's butt - what is the most interesting word the medical community has ever assigned you? |

Subject: RE: BS: Penguiculum and other neat Dx words From: GUEST,Slag Date: 25 Sep 08 - 08:13 PM coccidioidomycosis, or San Jauquin Valley fever. If memory serves it is a fungial infection, the spores of which are found in the dust in certain parts of the SJV. Many people have it and never have a symptom and other become quite ill, as I did at age 7. Missed a half year of school. The cure then was just plenty of bedrest and high vitamin "C" intake. |

Subject: RE: BS: Penguiculum and other neat Dx words From: Rapparee Date: 25 Sep 08 - 09:58 PM Schistosomiasis. But it ain't funny to those who have it. Pruritus ani Orchalgia Monorchism |
Subject: RE: BS: Penguiculum and other neat Dx words From: Nigel Parsons Date: 26 Sep 08 - 01:43 PM If it's a 'white head' (like a black head=sebaceous deposit with dirty stopper) then maybe the origin is the same as that often posited for penguin, i.e. White head (from the Welsh, pen gwyn) |
Subject: RE: BS: Penguiculum and other neat Dx words From: Escapee Date: 26 Sep 08 - 03:57 PM I once had an arthroscopic plantar fasciotomy. It's more impressive than saying you had a heel spur fixed. Fixed my heel pain, AND kept me out of the plant for two of the hottest weeks of the summer. |

Subject: RE: BS: Penguiculum and other neat Dx words From: Mrrzy Date: 26 Sep 08 - 07:50 PM I missed both schistosomiasis and billharzia, sounds like a couple nowadays, eh? Apparently the (deeper) root of penguin is fat, so I guess from growing up in the tropics the fat bubbled out of my eyeball(s) and made cornea-freckles, only they're yellow and pseudopodic... Kinda makes my toes curl, actually! |
