Subject: Lyr Add: All things bright & beautiful - modified From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 26 Sep 08 - 01:10 PM Sunday, October 5th, many people will honor St Francis of Assisi, (sp), perhaps with a blessing of the animals. We thought we'd give the actual blessing a miss, since most of us have cats, and cats do not relate well to rides in the car. In lieu of that, I decided to modify the verses to 'All Things Bright and Beautiful,' a children's hymn, to make it more suitable for adults and to express a modern way of thought. Here they are. I obstruviate all copyright. You can have them. Refrain: All things bright and beau-ti-ful, crea-tures great and small, All things wise and won-der-ful: the Lord God made them all. Each love-ly flow'r that o-pens, each live-ly bird that sings, He made its glow-ing col-ors, he made its flash-ing wings. The loft-y, cloud-capped moun-tains, the ri-vers run-ning by, the sun-set and the mor-ning, the ev-er-chang-ing sky. The lands both fair and des-ert, the crea-tures wild and tame, the can-yons and the pine-woods, we hon-or in Thy name. He gave us eyes to see them, And speech that we might tell How great is God A-lmigh-ty, who trea-sures all things well. =========== In order to get at the life-giving Lutheran coffee sooner, we are going to cut down the number of refrains. Refrain Two verses Refrain Two verses Refrain The cyberhymnal has melodies, and there are plenty of videos of this if you don't have music for it. Not all are public domain, so watch out for that. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: All things bright & beautiful - modified From: CupOfTea Date: 26 Sep 08 - 01:34 PM gosh, I didn't know it was such a lame thing that it needed "fixing" - the Episcopalians always seem to be able to sing it as writ with joy, harmony and vigor. I don't think we've ever looked at it as exclusively a "children's hymn" I vote for "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" harumph Joanne in Cleveland |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: All things bright & beautiful - modified From: Joe_F Date: 26 Sep 08 - 08:47 PM You (and the DigiTrad) missed: The rich man in his castle, The poor man at his gate, He made them, high and lowly, And ordered their estate. Perhaps, for the children, that could be changed to "...and filled their hearts with hate". Seriously, this sort of propaganda depends excessively, IMO, on the courtesy or timidity of the listener. If the good Lord made everything, then He also made All things vile and hideous, All vermin great & small, etc., etc. |
Subject: Lyr Add: ALL THINGS DULL AND UGLY (Eric Idle) From: Micca Date: 27 Sep 08 - 07:01 AM Joe F, Just for you , and with thanks to the Monty Pythons All Things Dull and Ugly All things dull and ugly, All creatures short and squat, All things rude and nasty, The Lord God made the lot. Each little snake that poisons, Each little wasp that stings, He made their brutish venom, He gave the bastards wings. All things sick and cancerous, All evil great and small, All things foul and dangerous, The Lord God made them all. Each nasty little hornet, Each beastly little squid, Who made the spiky urchin? Who made the sharks? He did! All things scabbed and ulcerous, All pox both great and small, Putrid, foul and gangrenous, The Lord God made them all. and ask not what Mudcatter taught this ,secretly, to a school choir, who then sang it at School Assembly, to the amusement of the students and the horror of the teachers!! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: All things bright & beautiful - modified From: WalkaboutsVerse Date: 25 Feb 11 - 07:37 AM The stanza that is usually left-out when performing Alexander's lyric is: "The tall trees in the green wood, The meadows where we play, The rushes by the water, We gather every day." But NOT by me, for what it's worth, when I go through my Christian repertoire each weekend - in the E. trad. "Country Life" chorus, remember, we "ramble through new mown hay"! |
