Subject: RE: Name ten famous Belgians! From: Steve Parkes Date: 15 Jun 99 - 11:38 AM Sorry Jo - had to go and take a cold shower. A German-speaking friend of mine told me years ago that the Germans tell Östfrieslander (Östfrieslandischer? No idea) jokes, and gave me this example: Q: Why did the tide go out? A: Because it saw the Östfrieslanders arriving for their holidays! Who says the Germans have no sense of humour? Well, me for one ... Steve b |
Subject: Never mind the Belgians! From: Steve Parkes Date: 15 Jun 99 - 11:28 AM Hey, Jo! (I'm gonna write a song with that name!) A red kiss - I can't beat that ... unless ... there's always the good ol' besso - that's a Spanish kiss .. it's like a French kiss only |
Subject: RE: Name ten famous Belgians! From: Rick Fielding Date: 15 Jun 99 - 11:24 AM Roger, were you in Pub Quiz? I did it for three years and experienced great triumphs and collossal humiliation. Upon answering the question: "who was Mary Ann Evans?" I received two beers, an Adidas bag, and a used junior Golf trophy with ny name written on it in magic marker stating I was "high scorer in finals '92." Upon missing the name of Dick Turpin's Horse (I said:....uhhh, Black Beauty?) I completed an 0 for 10 round and received dirty looks from my team-mates! Thank God I got a radio show and haven't had to embarrass myself anymore. |
Subject: RE: Name ten famous Belgians! From: Roger the zimmer Date: 15 Jun 99 - 09:58 AM I'm surprised no-one mentioned Belgian's most famous Flemish folk group, their answer to Peter, Paul and Mary (or Peter Paul & Rubens as they call them over there): Hertz van Rental and his wife Avis and her brother Kenning van Hire.[who can forget "Two Lips from Rotterdam"; "Up in a balloon with a Walloon"; "Son of a barge" and many other hits] Sorry,Steve. I held out for a few days! I compiled a pub quiz round on famous Belgians once and managed to find enough for two rounds but a lot were from before the modern state. |
Subject: RE: Name ten famous Belgians! From: Jo Taylor Date: 14 Jun 99 - 08:34 PM Steve - ha! I think we're quits - the chips thing was my way of a subtle joke... It's the first thing people here mention about Belgians... French people have Belgian jokes, England has Irish jokes, Normans have Breton jokes (N.O.I!! I'm fairly ethnically diverse myself). By the way (!) I had corrected the spelling before pushing the button - it wasn't the Jo bit that was causing the trouble. Kicking the traces - Jo x |
Subject: RE: Name ten famous Belgians! From: catspaw49 Date: 14 Jun 99 - 07:03 PM You done good there Fadac, so don't be too sulky about it. You're simply a natural worrier and pacer. If it feels good though, you can trot out some more. catspaw |
Subject: RE: Name ten famous Belgians! From: Dave Swan Date: 14 Jun 99 - 07:03 PM This all began when Steve said " In the U.K. we have a great party game called name ten famous Belgians" and we bought it. Swallowed that pretty treble hook with the imitation jiggling pork rind tadpole and ford fender right up to the leader, sinker and all. Played the game. He's got to be laughing himself silly. |
Subject: RE: Name ten famous Belgians! From: Fadac Date: 14 Jun 99 - 06:46 PM Egad, That is the crupper of humor. However, we'll just put the bit in our teath, and trot on. For someones edification, you use the scoop, near the end of the horse with the tail. Not to worry, it's just grass and water, with a bit of corn and apples from time to time. -Fadac, Did I write that? |
Subject: RE: Name ten famous Belgians! From: catspaw49 Date: 14 Jun 99 - 06:41 PM PJ--------I can tell you're not really trying to stirrup anything with your kind but withering remarks. Alas we must all be aware of our place in the show. So if I get stuck, I'll lunge at your offer. But when you have suggestions hold your hands high. No sense mucking about. It can be annoying having good puns and not being able to use them, kinda' like a boil that won't heal...So don't hold those chestnuts at bay or that sorrel never clear up. Christ, I can't take it anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! catspaw(talk about a thread blown all to hell........) |
Subject: RE: Name ten famous Belgians! From: PJ Date: 14 Jun 99 - 06:22 PM khatspaugh-- Your unfettered wit shows you're a winner who knows his place. As a mudder you give no quarter when it comes to puns. You're a real stud who always pulls his weight, and most of the time I must admit your humor is right on track. However, I worry that if you keep lunging at the off side of these jokes, the folks in philly may not like the tack you're taking and your reputation will suffer. This could cost you dearly, you could end up in hock, get depressed and just foal apart. I would hate to see that happen. Though it's clear you don't need anyone's help to kick up your heels, I humbly offer my support with puns (and I'm not just saying that to curry your favor). Draw nigh, catspaw- we'd make a great team! Don't stall, though, hurry and respond because my offer won't last furlong... PJ |

Subject: RE: Name ten famous Belgians! From: Steve Parkes Date: 14 Jun 99 - 05:19 AM Hello Jo! What's a nice girl like you doing in a thread like this? I rather like the greeny-bluey thing myself, but if you check out the HTML (right-click on the page then select VIEW SOURCE), you'll see it says color=red. I don't understand all this clever stuff, myself. Glad you're having a good time, by the way; how much trouble are you having spelling "Jo"? By the way, did you know that chips (with/without fish) is your actual Belgian take-away? Steve x |
Subject: RE: Name ten famous Belgians! From: catspaw49 Date: 14 Jun 99 - 01:16 AM Bummer ain't it? I was trying to work in something re: the homosexual/lesbian thread and housing so I could use Chateaugay ('63?) but I felt ancient enough with the Citation and Whirlaway refs (48 & 47???). Well, just buck up there old man and show great bravery in using the wit and cunning which age has afforded, you Gallant Fox you. (I'm stretchin' here). catspaw |
Subject: RE: Name ten famous Belgians! From: Rick Fielding Date: 14 Jun 99 - 12:17 AM Sham, that was Big Joe Walloons! Catspaw, something horrid just happened. I was trying to make a pun from Nashua and Swaps, and I just realized..I'm getting old!! |

Subject: RE: Name ten famous Belgians! From: catspaw49 Date: 13 Jun 99 - 07:45 PM Hay Rick, I didn't realize I was explaining, perhaps just trying a bit more stablization. Please don't call me on this action before the secretariat as I have already affirmed my intentions and issue this post as a citation to the rest of you for tolerating me, here at Mudcat. Hopefully this will all whirlaway as a slew of tripe. I mean, we might as well be pleasant instead of ruffians. As you are the "pickin" leader, so to speak, I will take your advice as I am always in your dust Commander. catspaw |

I don't think anyone got my yoke, I fetlock the smiley face. Sorry you got dregged into this, Rick. I'll just be running off to hide under the bed for a while.
