The 'Roots Of England' Folk Heritage Club hosted by Phil Drane. For an evening of acoustic Traditional and Contemporary English Folk music get on down to Lowick Community Hall, Lowick in the beautiful Crake Valley, just north of Ulverston. The postcode is LA12 8EE. Adult listeners will be relieved of £2; performers £1 and under 16s free. I had the privilege of performing with Taffy at Whitby Folk Week in August.

If you are into storytelling Taffy Thomas runs a storytelling circle in Ings on the first Tuesday of the month. He will probably have some musicians there. Taffy is one of our country's foremost storytellers. Brilliant!

Second Tuesday of the month - Lakeland Fiddlers at the Brewery Room in Staveley, Dickie Doodles in Kendal on a Wednesday and the Hale and Hearty Folk Club at the pub on the cross roads in Milnthorpe.

Great session on first Sunday of the month - so next one 5 October - 7.30pm onwards at the Old Crown, Hesket Newmarket which is near Caldbeck (N Lake district: back o'Skiddaw country). Great beer too as it has award winning micro Brewery. I'll be there, so do make yourself known if you go!

If you're in Langdale go to the Old Dungeon Ghyll and have a word with Neil the landlord. Neil's a good folk fiddler and has a regular session in the bar. I believe the session moves around to other pubs at different times, and Neil could tell you when and Where it happens.

I never can understand why there is not more folk in the Lakes. Not wishing to stereotype but the majority of the people who go to the Lakes are outdoorsy people, the kind you would expect to be into that kind of music, one way or another. Is it just because nobody is willing to organise anything on a permanent basis?

I started a thread in February which came to nowt despite a few good suggestions from fellow-Catters - but then my stay in the area netted not a single club or session through the whole week..

Rozy , I asked somewthing similar 6 months or so ago. Apart from Daves advice all I can add is, if you are in the West of Lakes,( Workington area ) Ray Phillips organises a small session on Wednesdays. I will PM his phone No.
