On Saturday 22nd. November Neil Brookes and Roy Clinging are leading an all-day workshop for any instrument at the Lewes Arms, Lewes, East Sussex BN7 1YH UK on Cheshire and North Shropshire tunes.

Roy and Neil perform at the Lewes Arms in the evening.

The music for the workshop is now available. Such is the magic of technology that I can send it to you in email form if you like.

The Lewes Arms, Mount Place, Lewes,

East Sussex BN7 1YH

            Neil (fiddle, flute) and Roy (voice, English concertina, guitar) are both steeped in the musical traditions of Cheshire & Shropshire. Neil has a distinctive English style of playing & has researched unpublished dance music manuscripts from the area, some of which will be shared at the workshop. Roy has researched, recorded & published songs from Cheshire.

            The workshop will cover Cheshire tunes including 'Rounds' & 3/2 hornpipes, quicksteps & marches from the 'Ash' manuscripts of Shropshire & some tunes for 2-3 parts. Most music in D/G but some in Dmin & C. Music will be sent in advance.



IN THE EVENING ROY CLINGING & NEIL BROOKES PERFORM AT

THE LEWES ARMS FOLK CLUB

(£6; advance tickets available from address at end of this form)



Provisional timetable

10.45 Registration & coffee; order lunch (refreshments not included)



11.00   Cheshire Tunes (pre 1750), including some 3/2 hornpipes 'in the Cheshire Way'.



12.30 - 13.30   Lunch



13.30   Stirring Napoleonic era tunes from North Shropshire manuscripts.



15.00   Tea/coffee break



15. 15 -16.45   North Shropshire dance tunes. Two rare clog dance tunes from Cheshire.   



N.B. Booking is recommended as numbers are limited.

Music, maps & accommodation lists will be sent in advance.

Should be good. We are lucky enough to have such excellent musicians locally so we don't need to come 'down South'.
