Just wanted to let everyone know ... Derby band The Ram Company are staging the world premiere of our new show: "Waltzers and Wonders: The Wakes Is In Town" at the Derby Folk Festival this year. It's on Saturday 25th October 2008 at the Derby Assembly Rooms.

The new CD is out very soon, too, featuring a suite of songs I wrote back in the 1980s, when I was with Muckram Wakes, together with a couple of songs by John Tams (including "Pulling-down song").

The lyrics will be available on the band's website: http://www.ramcompany.co.uk so you can all sing along.

Not forgetting the song "Julie's Chance" by Sarah Matthews and the tune "Streetfayre" by Gareth Turner.

mp3 downloads on http://www.ramcompany.co.uk including a bonus track that isn't on the CD.

Well done, Mitch. Mustn't forget to mention John Tams' song "Lily Gilders" either, first featured on the BBC Radio Ballad about fairground workers: "Swings and Roundabouts".

The Ram Company's version has added a chorus, which isn't there in the original. Tam seems to like it, which is a good thing.

We expect he'll be there at the Derby Folk Festival, as he's the patron. I hope he likes the rest of the show!

For those of you who know the Florence Nightingale Memorial Hall, you may well ask how you get 9 musicians (which includes a drum kit) onto the stage of the stage there. Well, we spent last Saturday rehearsing on the stage, and a very good time we had.

Hope to see some of you there on the 4th.

Cheers

Sylvia

Some pictures bigger than a postage stamp would have been a handy addition to your website.

Good suggestions, Jack - I'll send it on to our webmaster.

What we should have done is to include our Myspace site as well, more pictures of us and music. Just scroll down a bit for the pictures.
