Do we have any real information on the origins of this song?
I have seen 10 copies in the Bodleian library, all fairly complete, datine from the 1850's and 1860's, and there is a note in another thread of a version printed in W. Percy Merrick's 'Folk Songs From Sussex 1912'.

Yet Nic Jones says of his version that Cecil Sharp had a hand in completing it. (See other thread)
