I know that the first verse goes something like ....

Johnny why dont you come home come home
Johnny why dont you come home....
Your mother is sitting in her room all alone
Johnny why dont you come home come home....

I moved a number of lyrics posts ("take it back and change it for a boy" "mother" "why did I get married") to a thread titled Songs My Mother Used to Sing. The were in this thread, and didn't seem to have anything to do with the original request.

I think your looking for" Horo, Johhny, won't you come back home" written by Sean McCarthy. You find it on one of Niamh Parson's CDs

For which, see thread Oh Ro My Johnny [sic]. Presumably one of the several transcriptions there from cover versions is reasonably close to what McCarthy actually wrote.

Of course that may not be the song meant at all. A lot of Johnnies didn't go home, it seems.
