Nice to see abit of Canadian content there.
I am not familiar with Dan McKinnon but if you booked him he must be good.
Hope you all have a great time.

Dan is excellent - similar in style and sound in some ways, I suppose, to James Keelaghan... no attempt to set one off against the other, I hasten to add!

Sorry we'll missed you again, Hil... sob!

Needless to say I googled "Alternative Therapy" to find a 1/4 million people with strange things and potions.

So, Bernard tell us about "Alternative Therapy"

Yes, that's Dan - and Ruth & Ken (I did that page, BTW!)...

Therapy were Fiona Simpson, Dave Shannon and Sam Bracken - though Sam dropped out fairly early on.

Alternative Therapy are Dave and Sam, with Elaine Bracken... not sure where they got the name from...!!

We've had Sam and Elaine at the Open Door before (when we were at the Star Inn), and Sam still plays his guitar in that characteristic 'Bill Wymann-esque' almost vertical position!

I remember Therapy from before the war, they were very good. Do they have a website?

Looks like a great day out, best of luck Bernard

Not as such, Les, but the Worden Arts Centre has a page on them here.

I feel sure hey will be brilliant but also feel a more "search engine friendly" name might help people find them

Try googling Alternative Therapy Sam Bracken, and up they pop!

Okay, it assumes that you already knew Sam was a member, but have you tried coming up with an original band name recently?!

...and a good time woz 'ad by all!

We had a good turn-out of singers and audience who were all very appreciative of the ten-hour marathon!

Alternative Therapy look set to become very popular on the folk club circuit - and possibly festivals - so keep your eye out for them and get to see them as soon as you can! Sam and Dave's guitar/bouzouki combinations and Elaine's virtuoso irish flute along with their voices in various combinations... more imprtantly, the wide variety of material from trad Irish through to ragtime with various contemporary songs for good measure!

Ruth and Ken - what can I say that hasn't already been said? As a duo they 'gel' perfectly - Ruth's lovely voice and Ken's tasteful (never intrusive) guitar accompaniment... did I mention he makes the guitars himself?! Their choice of material suited the occasion perfectly, and included songs by Dave Walmisley (the other third of Risky Business).

Dan McKinnon? He stood before us with his beat up old Gallagher guitar, and mesmerised us with his playing and singing. Afterwards, he claimed he only sang three songs (out of fifteen or so) he hadn't written himself - two of which were Stan Rodgers covers - which is a fine testament to his songwriting ability.

So... if you weren't there, you missed a real treat - and for only twelve squid! Better luck next time!! ;o)
