Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix & videos From: Lonesome EJ Date: 16 Aug 09 - 11:22 PM See that My Grave is Kept Clean by Bobert w Leadfingers and I accompanying. Bobert's vocal and guitar are pretty clear on this one, I think. |
Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix & videos From: Genie Date: 16 Aug 09 - 09:53 PM I generally got better audio recording in the cabin with no amps being used than I did in the concert. When the sound is amplified and then picked up by the laptop's internal mic from a distance of 10-15 feet, there can be distortion that isn't there when the laptop's just recording an acoustic performance from 5 to 10 feet away. Then there's the issue of which format I use for saving the audio/video file. I can experiment with that some more. In the clip of the song I did at the concert, I could hardly hear my guitar at all. |
Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix & videos From: Bill D Date: 16 Aug 09 - 09:22 PM Well! I had gone to the trouble of saving several of these and playing them with VLC-(videolan player but after posting, I discovered that one can just paste in a YouTube address and play it without technically 'saving' it. VLC will play 'most' streaming media, as well as almost ANY audio or video files...(and they keep up with the latest codecs, too!) Kendall...the guitar sounds better this way, but there are limitations in the recording device. At least Jacqui's singing is clear.) |
Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix & videos From: Bill D Date: 16 Aug 09 - 09:10 PM The audio is 'better' if you can download it and play it thru a decent program. |
Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix & videos From: kendall Date: 16 Aug 09 - 08:57 PM The audio is just awful! My guitar sounds like it was being held down and sat upon by an elephant! |
Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix & videos From: Genie Date: 16 Aug 09 - 12:39 AM Thanks, Amos. I can put that title on the video now, even if it may not be quite the same version. |
Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix & videos From: Amos Date: 15 Aug 09 - 09:50 PM One web-version of the song Mick is singing: Ordinary man I am an ordinary man, nothing special nothing grand, I have to work for everthing I own. As I never asked for a lot, I was happy with with I got, enough to keep my family and my home. Now they say the times are hard, and they've handed me my cards they say there is not to work, to go around but when the whistle blows, the gates will finally close tonight they are going to shut this factory down, then they'll tear it down. I never missed a day or went to strike for better pay, for 20 years I served them the best I could Now with the signing of a check they seem so easy to forget the loyalty through the bad times and through good. Now the owner says it is sad to see that thing have got so bad but the Captains of industry won't let them lose. He still drives a car and smokes a cigar, he still takes his family on a cruise, he'll never lose. Now it seems to me such a cruel irony, he is richer now than ever he was before. Now my check spends and I can't afford the rent, there is one law for the rich one for the poor. Every day I try to salvage) some of my pride, to find some job so I can pay my way, but wherever I go the answer is always no, there is no work for anyone here today, no work today ... An so condemned I stand, just an ordinary man, with thousands beside my in the cue, I watch my darling wife try to make the best of life, but god knows what the kids are going to do now that we are faced with this human waste, a generation cast aside for as long as I live I never will forgive that you stripped me from my dignity an pride, you stripped me bare, you stripped me bare, you stripped me bare. |
Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix & videos From: Genie Date: 15 Aug 09 - 09:20 PM More from late night in the Peace Cabin.* It's Big Mick singing some song about being stripped bare or something. Barry walks in and joins in the chorus. Big Mick sings in the wee hours *I lost most of the videos I did of the concert Sunday night and most of the Doo Wop workshop in the Peace cabin. Most of what survived both my newbie ineptitude with iMovie and the later death of my hard drive is from Bobert's Blues Band, late nights in the Peace Cabin, and 10 to 12 performances from the Sunday night concert. A few things survived only in "thumbnail" form, which allowed for good audio files but made for only iPhone-size videos. Also there are a few video clips that I won't post publicly unless or until I check with the parties involved, for one reason or another. The ones I'm posting here seem pretty "safe." E.g., the songs are PD (at any rate not worried about violating copyright) and the performances look and sound good, etc.) Still, if anyone objects to something being shared, just let me know. |

Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix & videos From: Genie Date: 14 Aug 09 - 09:18 PM Welcome, Janie. Glad you're enjoying the vids (and sorry I lost so many of them). DK if I can make it this year. Depends on how things go here at home over the next 2 or 3 weeks, and it may be too late to make travel arrangements by then. But if not this year, I hope next year. G |

Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Videos From: Genie Date: 14 Aug 09 - 12:52 PM I've lost a lot of video over the last year, including about half of what I shot at the 2008 FSGW. (Lost some files early, while I was still getting the hang of editing in iMovie. Lost more when my hard drive died about 6 weeks ago and I had not backed up every video file that I was still working on.) But quite a bit survived these SNAFUs. Some of them are posted online, but with cryptic titles to make it unlikely they'll be viewed much, if at all, without someone sending a link. I'll take them down, of course, if any of the parties involved object. Here's Joe Offer, from the Peace Cabin, about 2 AM on Sunday, Oct. 5. Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix From: Genie Date: 21 Dec 08 - 02:17 AM Thanks, Amos. I figured it was probably something like that. I also just figured out how to "export" the video project to my Movie folder in any of several formats (as opposed to "saving" the project or burning it directly to DVD). I think once it's been "exported" as a QuickTime movie (or other format), I can then burn it to DVD. The problem re names is I'd like to add the name of the person or persons in the video to the file BEFORE I burn it to DVD. I'm not sure I can change it later (after I delete the original 'event' -- which I need to do to open up space on my hard drive). But if you or Dick or someone like that has an iPhone, I can send my video projects to you before burning them. Then after I've identified the perpetr... er, performers, I can add the credits and then burn the video to DVD. G |
Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix From: Amos Date: 21 Dec 08 - 01:40 AM Genie: Open an empty file in iDVD, and import the iMovie file into it and burn. 'S all ya need! A |
Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix From: Bill D Date: 20 Dec 08 - 10:33 PM Some of us who have been to 20-30 Getaways will gladly supply names.. *grin* |
Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix From: Genie Date: 20 Dec 08 - 04:56 PM Yeah, I got most of it on video, Steve. I'm just trying to figure out how to share it with the people I videoed without making it broadly available. I'd need permission of each performer - and in some cases, copyright holders - to post it in a very public place. However, iMovie doesn't seem to have a direct "burn to DVD" function. I can send the video clips to people's iPhones or post them on YouTube, but I'm still hoping to find a way to burn them to DVD and then send those to Dick. Maybe I'll get some sent to people as Christmas presents. I still need some help identifying all the people I videoed. I was busy 'filming' and didn't take notes on performers' names at the time, and I don't have everyone's name attached to their faces. |

Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix From: Genie Date: 07 Nov 08 - 01:28 AM Bill, I don't think I've reposted the same pics. But many I've posted are screencaps from the videos, so some may be very similar to others. (That lets people pick the ones they like best to save.) The exception is the little series of Tinker sharing "BOB" with us in the Peace Cabin in the wee hours of Sunday (IIRC). I've deleted and reposted that series because I left out a pic; I plan to do that again, for the same reason. Aside from that, I don't believe there are any duplicates. G |

Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix From: Charlie Baum Date: 02 Nov 08 - 12:59 PM Posting pictures should be fine, because people have been sharing images for years, and we all kind of expect that. You might want to not post pictures of us engaging in activities that would get us into trouble with the retreat center, such as consumption of alcoholic beverages (not that I'm saying we did that, but it's kind of awkward for the Getaway chairpeople to be explaining to the retreat center administration that some of us like to goof around by drinking coffee out of Jack Daniels bottles). We like the place, and want to be able to continue to book it in the future! Posting of videos, on the other hand, really needs to be cleared with each and every individual appearing in any segment to be posted. There are issues of copyrighted material, and there are also issues of performance. For instance, I for one don't think my performance of my song on Sunday night was very good, and that's NOT a version of it I want in circulation. --Charlie Baum |

Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix From: Genie Date: 01 Nov 08 - 08:47 PM OK, I've set up a Photobucket account just for Mudcat pics. Here's the link: Genie's Mudcat Photo Albums . I'll try to set it up so the album is public. Let me know if you have any problems viewing the album. Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix From: Genie Date: 01 Nov 08 - 06:43 PM Thanks, Dick. Maybe it was the videos that were at issue, partly because some of the songs are copyright protected. In any case, I'm very sensitive to the issue of "bad pictures" of people being shared with a lot of others, especially on line. (Of course, it's hard to tell what someone else considers a good or bad picture of themselves.) But I've tried, especially when making screen caps, to eliminate the really bad pics (people looking cross-eyed, picking their noses instead of their banjos, or just plain having a funny-looking facial expression. I've made some screen caps today and I should be able to get some pics posted next week. For the bulk of the next 2 1/2 days I plan to be working to elect Barack Obama and Joe Biden as well as a bunch of Senatorial and House candidates. Genie |

Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix From: Bill D Date: 01 Nov 08 - 02:02 PM 'tweren't dancin' that was the concern. I'd guess that Jack Daniels was never a Methodist. Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix From: Genie Date: 01 Nov 08 - 01:37 PM Bill D: "Ummm....you do NOT see, nor will you remember, pics showing late night behavior not approved by Methodists." Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix From: Genie Date: 01 Nov 08 - 01:09 PM Never mind. I was trying to open the old link. Dani's second link worked fine. I will open a photobucket account just for Mudcat photos and be posting some there as time allows. |
Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix From: Bill D Date: 01 Nov 08 - 12:00 PM Genie... I found it doesn't work 'properly' in Opera, but does in Firefox. In Opera, I see a partial loading and a note that says "This browser is not supported". I assume IE will work. |
Subject: RE: FSGW 2008 Getaway Pix From: Genie Date: 01 Nov 08 - 11:47 AM Dani, this link: doesn't work (at least for me). Waahh!! : ( I wanna see the pics! Genie BTW, one reason I haven't made any stills from my videos and posted them yet is that I kind of promised Charlie and/or Dick G that I wouldn't post people's pics online without their permission. DK just how I'm going to handle that, but the initial plan was to make the pics and videos available to Charlie and let him handle the permissions thing. |
