Hi,

I met someone at a concert who heard a gospel song:

"I don't want no trouble at the river (call and response x 3)
When it's time for me to go to the other side."

I thought it was a recording by Rev. J. C. Burnett Vol 2 1927-1945 where he preaches/sings "I don't want no trouble at the river".

She listened to the Burnett recording and that's not the same song (if you want to call Burnett's ramble a song) although it has the same line in it.

Does anyone know this song?

Richie

The lines may read

"I don't want no trouble at the river
When it's time for me to cross to the other side."

from this piece of an article:

The VIPs had gotten to their chairs, the media were cordoned off into their designated areas, and members of the general public were finally seated. Inside the room, aswarm with Secret Service, fire officials and other security sorts, the privileged hundreds were a ready audience for the hyped-up Arcata Interfaith Gospel Choir. But when the choir began to sing "People, people, people, people — hear me callin'" it seemed to speak to the thousand-some outside waiting fruitlessly to get in. It wasn't long before the choir made its move. The choir leader asked the buzzing crowd if it was all right if they sang a spiritual. The buzz didn't alter, so the song began. "I don't want no trouble at the river ... when it's time for me to cross to the other side."

And another video here.

Fast forward through the first song to get to it. The sound quality is not good and it is hard to understand the words.

I found a video of I Don't Want No Trouble at the River on Youtube at https://youtu.be/S7elK9j5RuA    recorded by Arcata Interfaith Gospel Choir, Earl Thomas soloist, on 5/4/13. According to this group, this version of the song was written by Margaret Pleasant Douroux Published by Re. Earl A. Pleasant Publishing
Copyright 1994, Margaret Pleasant Douroux

I don't want no trouble at the river (9x)
I don't want no trouble
When it's time for me to cross to the other side

I don't want no hold up at the river (9x)
I don't want no hold up
When it's time for me to cross to the other side

Sometimes I feel mistreated
Sometimes I feel defeated
Sometimes I feel like I can't go on
But when I think about old Jordan
and i know that one day I'm gonna have to cross that old chilly water
I don't want no hold up at the river
When it's time for me to cross to the other side

Repeat first chorus
