Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: GUEST Date: 07 Oct 08 - 12:19 PM What price please? |
Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: John MacKenzie Date: 07 Oct 08 - 12:34 PM GL I assume is for Gordon Lightfoot. |
Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: burntstump Date: 07 Oct 08 - 12:54 PM Yes the guitar is a Gordon Lightfoot signature limited edition of only 61 ever made by Martin, a replica of Lightfoots own Martin circa 1954. As you can imagine the guitar is made from exceptionaly high quality wood and the craftmanship is superb, all 61 are signed by Gordon Lightfoot. This guitar in mint condition, photos are available. I would suggest that anyone seeking more information sign up to being a member of Mudcat so they can send a PM, I don't want to get the silly day dreamers involved. |
Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: PoppaGator Date: 07 Oct 08 - 01:26 PM What year did they make those 61 guitars?: Just curious ~ count me in as one of the silly daydreamers; I'm sticking with the non-mint-condition D-18 I already have. I've gotten a "ballpark" rough-estimate appraisal of $2500 for my 1969 D-18. (It's not a firm figure because I didn't pay for an official, good-for-insurance-purposes appraisal.) I would assume that the asking price for a special signature-model D-18 would be significantly higher than that ~ ??? |
Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: burntstump Date: 07 Oct 08 - 01:44 PM Martin made the guitars in 2001 |
Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: burntstump Date: 08 Oct 08 - 12:31 PM The guitar has no marks or dings it is in near new condition |

Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: AcousticTone Date: 22 Oct 08 - 07:03 PM Hi, Sorry to hear you had to deal with a test pilot. It seems that it is in nice shape, so no issues there. Can you advise price and where you are located in terms of shipping. If you have photos, that would be good too. |
Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: burntstump Date: 24 Oct 08 - 07:16 AM Hi AcousticTone I have sent you a PM |
Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: Silas Date: 24 Oct 08 - 07:22 AM Why not just say what you want for it? I hate shop windows without prices in them. |
Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: Lowden Jameswright Date: 24 Oct 08 - 09:30 AM Different folk use different marketing techniques, and it's up to them I suppose, but I also walk away from shops that don't show prices - it's maybe the old "if you need to ask, then you can't afford it" syndrome. As a GL fan I'd love to own a GL signature guitar, but having already got a £2000 guitar I doubt very much my good wife would consider it a sensible Christmas present. At the right price though - who knows? |
Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: GUEST Date: 24 Oct 08 - 04:47 PM Havn't heard from you on Mudcatfor a while Mr B. Will always remember our session of Lightfoot songs on Lightfoot guitars. (Mine is #57) These may be the only ones in the UK. Regards M |
Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: guitar-gord Date: 25 Oct 08 - 01:05 AM This is a beautiful guitar from a great maker, and is a great tribute to one of the great folk singers of our time. Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: Backwoodsman Date: 25 Oct 08 - 09:49 AM I played one owned by a fellow Jack Hudson Fan and Mudcatter a few years ago, it looked and sounded the business. The little MOP image of the 'Edmund Fitzgerald' on the FB was beautiful, a real classy touch. |
Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: burntstump Date: 01 Nov 08 - 04:34 AM The above mentioned Martin guitar number 57, which I believe is only the 2nd one in the uk, had a great acoustic session on Wednesday night here in Nottingham. The second time these two great instruments numbers 57 & 58 have had the pleasure of playing together. A very rare treat!!! |

Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: vlmagee Date: 30 Nov 08 - 05:03 PM For anyone who wants more information on the guitar, visit my web site and read my article on it, from back in July 2000: Lightfoot guitar article It's quilted mahogany with an Englemann spruce top. There are links in my story to the Martin Sounding Board article, with lots of detail, and some nice photos at Elderly. And, if you go to my home page, and scroll down from my Massey 2008 story here, you will see a picture of mine (#22) - with it's extra, non-factory installed autograph. PS to #57 and #58: #14 is in the UK as well, and I was told at one point that 5 were sent there, but I can't guarantee that is correct. |
Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: GUEST Date: 30 Nov 08 - 10:55 PM Did you ever get around to learning to play it Val? John in Hamilton |
Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: Capo da Monty Date: 01 Dec 08 - 07:29 AM Thanks for the info Val. It would be interesting to meet up with #14. Perhaps 'Catters could look out for it around the UK venues! Regards #57 |
Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: vlmagee Date: 02 Dec 08 - 05:12 PM Um, no, John. I rarely have time to play and have pretty much given up. Maybe when (if?) I retire? MB, (is it?), I will email #14 and see if he wants to meet up with you two. |
Subject: RE: Martin D18GL Gordon Lightfoot acoustic From: GUEST Date: 02 Dec 08 - 06:40 PM A pity on that Val! Its always nice to see the breakthrough of someone who has their inhibitions at the outset. There's still time! John |
