Subject: RE: Question re Amanda Marshall video on YT From: gnu Date: 07 Oct 08 - 07:11 PM Got thinking about Canuck females... no, not Joni and the like... everyone knows them... some of the ones that I have enjoyed over the years... maybe not ALL folk or blues but, Sass tries on this one. Her rockin tunes are better, but this is a blues site. Of course, can't forget Alannah. I'll stop now. Anyone else you like, fellow Canuckistanians? Natalie? Cookie? That chick that moved out west? |
Subject: RE: Question re Amanda Marshall video on YT From: gnu Date: 07 Oct 08 - 06:12 PM Oh, I like her "tune". Just pissed at the misnomer. I had a guy rip one of my tunes years ago and that shit just don't sit well with me. Now, that was just in the pubs around this backwater town, not on global You Tube. But, I suppose a few pennies don't matter squat to Amanda. She can afford a few snakes... hehehehe. BTW... anyone ain't never heard Amanda Marshall oughta check out her tunes... she is an amazing performer. Easy on the eyes too. |
Subject: RE: Question re Amanda Marshall video on YT From: PoppaGator Date: 07 Oct 08 - 05:42 PM I've noticed that it's fairly common for performers posting on YouTube to indentify their material with the name of the well-known performing artist they're covering, whether or not that person is the songwriter as well as the singer, and whether or not the specified person is responsible for the original recording. It's just the performer with whose rendition that one person is most familiar. Dumb, annoying, and misleading ~ but common practice. Get used to it! (That is, be warned!) Also, of course, this is not to say that a person following this practice, which I think is stupid, might not be capable of an excellent musical performance |
Subject: RE: Question re Amanda Marshall video on YT From: gnu Date: 07 Oct 08 - 04:58 PM Oh... sorry... why is the video using her name and her song as if it's her... and it's not her? Or did I miss sommat? |
Subject: RE: Question re Amanda Marshall video on YT From: katlaughing Date: 07 Oct 08 - 03:58 PM I don't understand your question. Not having heard of either singer, I guess I don't have any preconceived notions. I listened to the first and thought she had a great and powerful voice, though she was slightly flat on a couple of higher, sustained notes. Then I watched part of Amanda Marshall doing the same song. I preferred the first one, i.e. the cover to the original. It seemed more real, raw, emotional. FWIW, my take. Oh, and a little pedant in me noticed the use of "I" to rhyme with the next line, even though it should be "me.":-) |
