Of course this is an impossible question to answer because the best moments of festivals are always surprises: Music you have not heard before, people you have not met before, moments of kindness which crop up from nowhere.

"BBP & The Leveller, you're already coming to ours, can we come to yours?"

Paul, Blind Summat is already on the list of prospective artists. Now, when I am going to get that lottery win?

Little Robyn:

"The main thing for me would be that none of the things I want to see/hear, workshops, concerts, etc. would overlap!
Will Fly that sounds lovely. If I ever get around to your side of the world again, can I come?
Robyn"

Absolutely - if you're in Sussex towards the end of August, PM me and you'll be welcome.

I was actually having a similar conversation last week with a folkie friend - along the lines of "What would you do if you won the Lottery?".

AH! Mr Mesh Man - what will the festival be like when you wake-up from this dream?

Mesh is designed to keep people out - is this a clue?

Actually, some friends of mine do organise their own annual summer festival - in the back garden of one of their houses in Sussex. It's an "invitation only" festival to locals, friends and various musicians - and around 150 people turn up, with around 20 acts performing. There's a beer area, food area, proper PA and mixer system (I was doing the mix this year) - and you puts your name on the blackboard and then you performs.

It's a wonderful event. Everyone brings some food and drink, and a chair/cushion if need be. A rota of voluneers does food, drink and washing-up service. We end with a short ceilidh - after the folk, traditional ,blues, jazz, rock of the day - and then chill out around a large bonfire after 9pm.

And it's free - people just bring their music and their food/drink contribution. Performers range from 4-year olds to 84-year olds!

It would take place in our village, on the big field in front of the castle; I get to choose the artists, the beer and food are free and I can have late-night singarounds under the willow tree in my garden. The weather, of course, will be fantastic. Best of all, I can sleep in my own bed. Hmmm....might have to organise that one day.

If this will happen I am sure your seat will be white and fluffy.

All artists will be playing harp.

And your choice of audience - who would also want to have all the facilities you have - but wouldn't get them.

MY IDEAL FOLK FESTIVAL

Well, of course, I get to pick the artists appearing, and their set lists will be submitted to me for approval 30 days before the event. Festival sites can be difficult to find and so a chauffeur driven limo will pick me up and deliver me to site where a steward will be allocated for my use throughout the festival period. All venues will have waitress service and a menu will be available listing all of the finest real ales and those ciders which glow in the dark. Concerts will start (and finish) when I'm good and ready and a reserved front row seat made available. That seat will incorporate a port-a-potty because I have no intention searching for a loo or missing anything. I will have constant remote control of the sound desk ensuring perfect sound (for me) throughout all concerts.

My tent will have been erected (by my steward) not more than 10 paces from my chosen venue and that area will become a late night area if I say it is, but if I want to go to sleep everyone will be quiet and go to bed.

There will be a fully equipped hospital on site (I may get a headache), kennels to accommodate visitor's dogs, a baby sitting service and a crèche for children, and a bank (where 100% of my money is safe) and a financial advisor.

I don't think this is too much to ask.

Oh, and of course, the festival should be FREE.
