From: maldenny
Date: 09 Oct 08 - 06:06 PM

The 11th annual Audlem Bagpipe and Hurdy Gurdy day will be held on Saturday 15th November this year.

It's to be held in the Shroppie Fly (one of Audlem's three pubs) at 12.30 p.m. til 5.30 p.m. Food is available in all three pubs, and there's a good choice of beers.

It's always been a smallish event, with 30 to 40 musicians last year, but all are welcome.

Sounds good... Audlem in Cheshire?

Is there a website?

Can you post times, venues, admission costs etc?...

Thanks in anticipation,

Spleeno

I would have thought maldenny's comment:

would cover it!

Hi Spleeno, as Guest says, the earlier notice says about all you asked. There's no charge and it's held in a pub in Audlem, Cheshire, just alongside the canal.

Apologies for getting so excited about this event that I neglected to notice some of what I asked about was in the OP. Thank you to Mal for the helpful response.

No thanks to anonymous guest for the supercillious toss.

It's supercilious, Nigel. Means Anonymous Guests have nothing above the eyebrows. As I have a new gurdy-thingy with little clue of how to play it, I'm thinking of going and might see you there.

There'll be some good music there (not all hurdys and bagpipes either).
They are a great crowd who do a good session every Monday evening too. And since is by the canal you often get passing guests.

Can Thoroughly reccomend the event, Great music Good company and a musician friendly pub by the canal.Who could ask for more.
We found it to be a very welcoming and inclusive gathering.
All those hurdy gurdys and bagpipes in the one location, how could you go wrong!
All the best for a great day, we will be there in spirit if not in person.

John & Marie

Thank you, Diane. I've removed the unseemly superfluous L, taken it outside and had it thrashed within an inch of its life.

I'll bet your neighbours love your new toy...

I may also have been a bit hard on the AG, but it was a bugger of a day yesterday....

Unfortunately clashes with Chester FF's fundraising event & Folkus workshops, all at Hoole Community Centre http://www.chesterfolk.org.uk/barndance.htm

Guess Time Bandits'll have to dash between both.

Pity tho, me & the Gloom Band would've loved to come Audlem - sigh

Mr Happy - is there anything on during the daytime to do with the Chester Festival? are there Folkus workshops on that day?
Please say no - I'll go spare if I have to choose. Well no choice really, we go to the BP&HG day every year and wouldn't miss.

We new about the barn dance but thought we could go to the BP&HG day which finishes at 5.30 and then go on to the barn dance in Chester, didn't realise there was anything on during the day.

Scroll down the page & find this:

Saturday 15th November 2008
Hoole Community Centre, Hoole, Chester.
Workshops:
Guitar, Fiddle, Bodhran, Whistle.

Apparently it costs £12, [so I won't be going]

Both websites are a bit short on details on the workshops.

Serve them right if everyone went to Audlem instead.

Certainly hoping to be at the ceilidh.

Thanks, Mr Happy.

I will definitely be going to the Bagpipe and Hurdy Gurdy Day and then on to the ceilidh at Hoole afterwards. Last year we stayed on for the evening because the Boat Band were there but not this year, I think.

Pity about missing the workshops but never mind...

By the way, the landlady at the Shroppie Fly will be happy for there to be a session there on Saturday evening too. The session will feature a set by "The Shropshire Heroes" of local fame!

Just got back, tired, emotional, extatic all those words. A brillaint day of music on lots and lots of HGs, bagpipes and everything else that is played in folk sessions and beyond

Thanks a lot for a great day out.

Didn't make it during the day, but played in the evening session. A great occasion this, and a quite eccentric one. An important part of my calendar, I know of no event remotely like it. Full marks to John Hardy and co for setting it up.

Hi everybody who was at this year's ABHGD.

Does anyone know who the little girl was who played the fiddle? She was sat with her mum at the back just in front of the stairs. And a very good fiddler she was too!

My lot played a Mazurka and the girl absolutely loved the tune and asked us what it was called. I told her and her mum that I had the dots for it and offered to email it to them. I scribbled my email address on a bit of paper and gave it to her mum saying that, if she emailed me, I would send the file. However, I haven't received an email from them and wonder whether my handwriting was just too bad to decipher. They were really keen to have the music so I don't think it's that they haven't bothered.

If anyone knows who they are and can get in touch with them please PM me and I will give you my email address to pass on.

Thanks,
Marilyn
