An amusing video with a serious message.

Here it is.

I agree Jack.
I laughed yet understood the undertone. I believe this belongs up here and also down in the B.S. section depending on how one looks at it.

Good post, Jack. FYI, the Conservatives today showed 39% in the polls. The Liberals 34 and the ND 14. Combined, Harper's hopes for a Dubya-style role in Canada look like they're in the shitter.

I'm glad you posted this clip.... it's had close to 400K hits in Que. since it came out. Michel Rivard is a great guy and an old acquaintance. Harper's $40 million in cuts to Arts programs did not sit well in Quebec...and will cost him seats in this province(nation)
which he dearly needs for a majority...

I love when artists/musicians push back...and have this kind of impact.....

Rivard is obviously very talented.

The video is a good use of his talent.

Ron, there is NO way Harper will get a majority. I think we'll have a Conservative minority, and if the Libs and NDs can get their shit together we'll have a Liberal majority within a year and a half. The Harper government will fall to a no confidence vote and maybe next time the idiots who are trying to wreck Canada by voting for him will wake up enough to get us some government we can afford.

ps. there's a 9 minute version of this video also....on youtube..

I figure if a person really wanted some attention and publicity, they could run as a Bloq candidate outside Quebec... the media would be lined up to do interviews...
you could borrow a few planks from the neo-rhino party, telling folks not to worry,,,, when Quebec separates, it'll take the rest of Canada with it to form a new country with Cuba... called Cubec,,, while our new 'national drink' would be maple syrup and rum.....

makes about as much sense as most of the stuff the 'official' bullshit artists from both sides of the House have been shovelling us....

By entering "phoque en alaska" in the YouTube searcher one can access several versions of M. Rivard's beloved "Complainte", which I first heard on a CD by Octopus, a men's chorus from Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan.

now THAT sounds interesting.... Michel is a fine writer and down to earth person... he once lent me his 'Sho-Bud' pedal steel guitar for more than a year... he was really apologetic when he asked for it back, that's the kind of man he is... solid, sympathetic and sincere

a good showman too.. witty, warm and very comical

Hi Kids: Anybody who has spent 10 minutes in Quebec/Montreal would realize how important and welcome the Arts are here. Festival after Festival helping to drive the economy, bringing in the tourist dollars & creating jobs...Not to mention the bonds that have been formed between Artists from EVERY culture. Go to The Latin Quarter on St. Denis on a weekend...

I hope that the Government will smell the coffee...

I would say that Harper's arts gaffe has heavily contributed to the fact that he did not get the seats he had hoped for in Quebec thereby denying him a majority gov't....

phoque him anyway..
