Subject: RE: Oct.Shanty Session@The Press Room From: adventure Date: 18 Oct 08 - 08:28 AM Oh I don't know about that...the old neighborhood has improved a bit!!!! We're heading down to Adventure to do some winterizing work before the real cold hits. Hope to make it to the Press Room after we finish. Need some relief and song and maybe a Scotch or ten!!! Subject: RE: Oct.Shanty Session@The Press Room From: Charley Noble Date: 18 Oct 08 - 10:30 AM Doryman B- I'd like to car pool but it may be difficult to coordinate this time around. I start in Richmond and we could meet there, or in Topsham if you come down Rt. 1. But I'll be out putting up campaign signs today and I'm not sure exactly when I'll be quitting. Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Oct.Shanty Session@The Press Room From: Charley Noble Date: 18 Oct 08 - 09:51 PM Just got from the session which was really nice after a hard day of pounding in campaign signs, and I think I've got a bad case of mallet elbow! Who was there? Singers included myself, Tom Hall, Dave Hallowell, Carol, Chris, Petre, Peter and Joanne, Dave and Rose, Jeri, Barry Finn, Jacque, Micca, and Barbara. Not as crowded as some sessions but more chances to lead songs and even discuss some of them. Let's see, I led "The Ballad of John Silver" by John Masefield. Then I did three C. Fox Smith poems that I've adapted for singing: "Mobile Bay," "The Old Pagoda Anchorage," and "The Traveller." I also did two contemporary songs, "From Aukland to the Bluff" by Rudy Sunde of New Zealand and "Tramps (coaling shanty)" by Ron Baxter of Fleetwood (UK). Everyone seemed to be in great form, and the music from the kitchen was riveting! I also figured out for the first time the banjo chords to "Patrick Spense" which Peter was leading, accompanying himself on the 12-string guitar. I did get home earlier than usual this evening and I'm glad I did because I'm quite bushed from all the work I was doing before the session. I understand that in a month or two the campaign will be over? Maybe others can fill in what they led for the record. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
