Subject: Tony McManus in Elora From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 13 Oct 08 - 03:16 PM I pass this along from the Cape Breton Music List: Tony McManus to Host Second ELORA GUITAR SEMINAR & CONCERT McManus is one of the many international artists who make their home in the village of Elora. In the course of 15 years as a professional musician Tony's guitar has taken him all over Europe, North America and Australasia; from Nashville's legendary Ryman Auditorium to Noumea on the Pacific Island of New Caledonia. Tony has now decided to cement the musical relationship with his adopted home town with the Elora Guitar Seminar. Following on the success of the first weekend event last year, from October 17 – 19th, students from as far as Vancouver, the UK and Colorado will come to Elora to spend the weekend at the Drew House B&B feasting on the culinary delights of Roger Dufau whilst receiving intense instruction in acoustic guitar. Returning to share teaching duties is special guest Rolly Brown from Pennsylvania who was a huge hit with both the students and the concert audience. Rolly is a former winner of the prestigious Winfield National Guitar Contest and a revered instructor in many styles of guitar music. On Saturday, October 18th at 8pm these two friends will be in concert at the Drew House entertaining an intimate gathering of the public and their students. Brown is a reknowned fingerstyle Jazz player who also nods in the direction of Bluegrass while Tony's music draws on the Celtic traditions of Scotland and Ireland. The combination of these two talents is sure to provide a memorable public side to what will become an annual guitar event. Tickets for the October 20th concert at the Drew House are limited and can be purchased in advance at the Elora General Store in person or by phone. 519 846 2600. Ticket price $25. |
Subject: RE: Tony McManus in Elora From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 13 Oct 08 - 10:04 PM I'm a fan of Tony McManus, and I encourage any guitarists to join him. Where, precisely, is Elora? |
Subject: RE: Tony McManus in Elora From: GUEST,Mooh Date: 14 Oct 08 - 08:59 AM The problem with these events is they always conflict with my own gigs so I rarely get to attend them. I like Tony, enjoy! Peace, Mooh. |
Subject: RE: Tony McManus in Elora From: GUEST Date: 14 Oct 08 - 09:02 AM Sorry, here are the directions from the Elora site... From Toronto: Take 401 west towards London and follow the directions below. From the 401: Follow Highway 6 North through Guelph. Turn left onto County Road 7 just north of Marden. In about 10 minutes you will see Elora! From Kitchener: Take Highway 86 north, and then County Road 22 north at the Waterloo City limits. County Road 22 turns into County Road 18 and you will end up at the stop lights at Salem. Keep straight and follow the road right into Elora! Peace, Mooh. |
Subject: RE: Tony McManus in Elora From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 14 Oct 08 - 03:48 PM The reference to Cape Breton had me fooled. I thought we were talking about a place in the Atlantic Ocean. It is north of Kitchener, Ontario within reach of people in Detroit and Buffalo, as well of course of Toronto and London. And how about you guys in Blind River? You could drive down and escape the town you seem to love so much. My atlas refers to 'Elora Gorge.' What about that? |
Subject: RE: Tony McManus in Elora From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 14 Oct 08 - 04:04 PM Sorry about any confusion with Cape Breton. I only credited that list as the source of the information. Elora is a bit west of Toronto. |
