Subject: Lyr. Add: Pecos Bill; Spanish by E. Santos From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 21 Oct 10 - 05:39 PM Lyr. Cancionero Fapatur |

Subject: RE: lyricPecos Bill(sons of Pioneers/Roy Rodgers) From: Date: 12 Jun 99 - 09:03 PM I think we could update that 7th verse so as not to cause offense. Let's see.. While a familial group of Native Americans performed a rather hostile rhythmic ritual Pecos , with unexpected gunfire, this sacred ceremony did at last defame. He so disturbed their peace of mind That, at last, they left their paint behind And this atrocity gave the Painted Desert it's name. There! Now we can sing it without fear of offending.(I know it doesn't scan very well!) LEJ :] |
Subject: Lyr Add: PECOS BILL (Johnny Lange, Eliot Daniel) From: Date: 12 Jun 99 - 07:31 PM PECOS BILL Words and music by Johnny Lange and Eliot Daniel 1. Oh! Pecos Bill was quite a cowboy down in Texas And a western superman, to say the least. He was the roughest, toughest critter, Never known to be a quitter, 'Cuz he never had no fear of man or beast. CHORUS: So, yip-pee-i-ay i-ay, yip-pee-i-oh Fer the toughest critter west of the Alamo. 2. Once he roped a ragin' cyclone out of nowhere, Then he straddled it and settled down with ease, And while that cyclone bucked and flitted, Pecos rolled a smoke and lit it, And he tamed that orn'ry wind down to a breeze. 3. Once there was a drought that spread all over Texas, So to sunny Californy he did go, And though the gag is kind of corny, He brought rain from Californy. That's the way we got the Gulf of Mexico. 4. Once a band of rustlers stole a herd of cattle, But they didn't know the herd they stole was Bill's, And when he caught them crooked vill'ins, Pecos knocked out all their fillin's. That's the reason why there's gold in them thar hills. 5. Oh, Pecos lost his way while travelin' on the desert. It was ninety miles across the burnin' sand. He knew he'd never reach the border If he didn't get some water, So he got a stick and dug the Rio Grande. 6. Now one day Pecos found his fav'rite dogie missin', The dogie that was nearest to his heart, So then he lassoed all the cattle Clear from Texas to Seattle. That's the way the Texas roundup got its start. 7. While a tribe of painted Injuns did a war dance, Pecos started shootin' up their little game. He gave them redskins such a shakeup That they jumped out from their makeup. That's the way the Painted Desert got its name. 8. While reclinin' on a cloud high over Texas, With his gun he made the stars evaporate. Then Pecos saw the stars declinin', So he left one brightly shinin' As the emblem of the Lone Star Texas State. |
Subject: RE: lyricPecos Bill(sons of Pioneers/Roy Rodgers) From: JOField Date: 12 Jun 99 - 07:24 PM Well, Pecos Bill was quite a cowboy down in Texas, And a Western superman to say the least. He was the roughest, toughest critter, Never known to be a quitter, 'Cause he had no fear of neither man nor beast. CH: So whoopy-ti-ay-ti-ay, whoopy-ty-oh, For the toughest cowboy West of the Alamo. (Spoken) Now one day a gang of rustlers stole some cattle, But they didn't know the heard they stole was Bill's. When Pecos caught those nasty villains, He knocked out all of their fillin's, And that's why today there's gold in them thar hills. _____________________________________________________ That's all I can remember after 50 years -- there's another verse that would not make Native Americans -- or many others -- very happy today.
