Help! I just tried to watch a Youtube clip - the first time I've been to the site for a while - and nothing came up in the player. All the rest of the page is there, just a big blank space where the player should be, and no music. Any ideas?

You have the latest version of Flash? You don't say what browser, etc.

I don't know whether I have the latest version of Flash, I'm afraid, nor how to find out. What do I do if I haven't? All I know is it used to work and now doesn't. I'm using IE.

We had that problem. IE kept saying I need the latest Flash player and I kept downloading it and it kept not working. The BBC iPlayer stopped working too. Eventually I gave up, took it to my local PC shop and they reckoned my registry was corrupted so they installed Firefox and it's been fine ever since (fingers crossed!!)

Of course, you don't need to pay your local shop to install Firefox and see if that works.

I sometimes get a message that I either don't have Flash, OR that Javascript is turned off. If YouTube tries to set its cookie and fails, it won't play, so I have to 'clear my cache' in order to allow my browser to get rid of the setting that YouTube doesn't like.

I have no idea if that is affecting you, though. If you tell us which video, we can see if it plays, just to be sure it hasn't been removed.

Thanks Bill (and all other helpers). Clearing the cache seems to have fixed it.

Oi, Murray, advertising my Youtube clips to the world doesn't give you the right to make remarks about my age! I have actually been playing the thing for around 30 years, and the bit about "just getting the hang of it" is definitely right.

Oh, and 'GUEST' above was obviously me, having lost my cookie in the cache clearout. Before that I couldn't view ANY Youtube vids, although I have to confess that the one I was trying to access was that of Camille O'Sullivan, linked by Ruth Archer on the Eliza thread.

Good grief, Brian - just watched this and wept. At the age of 64 I've just started to play the anglo (20 keys) and have just about struggled through "Dirty Old Town" in G. Actually, I didn't weep, I felt inspired to struggle even harder. Wonderful playing!

what always amazes me about Brian is how any one performer can be so good on the guitar and the concertina. And he is bloody good on the guitar. If he could sing, he would be totally amazing ...

the only parallel I can think of is Tomas Lynch, who is an incredible guitarist, and a virtuoso uillean piper.

obviously there are many guitar/banjo/fiddle virtuosi, but few on dissimilar instruments imo.

actually, this subject deserves a thread of its own ...

A little trick - If you have Firefox and the NoScript plugin, it may be preventing the running of the Flash Player. Don't forget that Flashblock plugin either. Been caught myself occasionally...
