Subject: Lyr Req: War is a Card Game From: GUEST,Bruce MacNeill Date: 17 Oct 08 - 11:08 AM Showing my age, Nancy Ames, a pretty blonde folkish singer and guitar player, was on the TV show "That was the Week that was" back in the 60's and I remember her singing a song something like: "War is a card game children play, when it's raining outside and they're home from school and there's nothing to do but war". It doesn't seem to be in the database and maybe that was the only time she ever sang it. Does anyone else remember it and maybe have the lyrics? I sort of remember the tune I think. At the end, as I recall, "the rain stops and the kids give in and forget the score, throw the card on the floor. Just like it is in War." It made an impression on me at the time, although I still wound up in Vietnam for awhile. Thanks Bruce |

Subject: Lyr Req: WAR IS A CARD GAME (Pamela Anna Polland) From: Jim Dixon Date: 19 Oct 08 - 03:57 PM ASCAP.com says WARS IS A CARD GAME was written by Pamela Anna Polland. Here's my transcription from the MP3 file shown above: (It comes, by the way from a web site full of quirky old novelty songs. Click here: http://www.philxmilstein.com/probe/index.htm.) WAR IS A CARD GAME As sung by Nancy Ames War is a card game children play When the school day is through and it's rainin' outside And there's nothing to do But— War is a card game children play. War is a card game children play. With cards on the table, it's only a game, But even with people, it's still just the same. Yes, it's— War is a card game children play. War is a card game children play. When a three meets a five, they're passin' on through. A jack meets a four, and they're passin' on two, But a king meets a king, And it's— War is a card game children play. War is a card game children play, Where the lowest ones lose and he highest ones win. Then the rain outside stops so the children give in, All ignoring the score, throw the cards on the floor, Like in war. |
