*Duck Baker at Edinburgh Folk Club, Wednesday 22nd October 2008*

This Wednesday we see the return of Duck Baker who is an old friend of the club and a favourite of many.

"Duck Baker is one of the most highly regarded fingerstyle guitarists of his generation. He is unique among jazz guitarists in that his repertoire spans the entire history of the music from ragtime through swing to modern masters like Theolonious Monk and Herbie Nichols to free improvisation. Baker's devotion to American music also encompasses more traditional forms like blues, gospel and Appalachian music and its Scots-Irisg ancestry. This catholicism has been likened to Europeans who perform the classical repertoire from renaissance through to modern music."

His "Kid On The Mountain" CD - done 30 years or so in London - is still a classic of traditional instrumental music on acoustic guitar. Wonderful performer, and I wish I could be there.

Well, you're welcome if you can manage but thanks for the endorsement.

All you Edinburgh "Catters" have no excuse though!

Unfortunately I shall be in Waterford on 22nd (Leon Redbone there on 25th) - but I'd be in Edinburgh if I wasn't in Ireland. I can't see any other dates for DB in england at present. If there are any, please tell me - someone...
