Subject: RE: Maybe Song Ssn Stoke N Kent Sun 28 Dec? From: VirginiaTam Date: 29 Dec 08 - 07:58 AM I forgot to mention Kev the Clogs. What an astounding voice. 2 of yesterday's tingles came from Kevin singing. I like that he adjusted his dynamics to cover the bar crowd noise. Why has he been hiding his light under a bushel? |
Subject: RE: Maybe Song Ssn Stoke N Kent Sun 28 Dec? From: romany man Date: 29 Dec 08 - 04:58 AM Even i had a good time rb thanks, it was a good session, had to leave early as other commitments on the horse front, wish i could have stayed a bit longer, im glad kev got over his stage fright and had a good sing up, blimey i even found meself havin a little singalong, as for the pub, me sat nav thought it was in a field, bloody technology, but apart from that on a personal note, it felt that the landpersons didnt really show any enthusiasm apart from selling the extra beer, the accous the acou the sounds in the pub were good apart from the noisy end and yes i agree with rich the landlord was not above raising his voice, with the rabble. i would love another session like that one if possible, perhaps a force of numbers would shut the buggers up, we were few in number. a good afternoon richard thanks. |
Subject: RE: Maybe Song Ssn Stoke N Kent Sun 28 Dec? From: GUEST,woodsie Date: 29 Dec 08 - 04:45 AM Well I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The music and people were first class. The pub ... Thanks Richard for organising, thanks george/fisheye for the lift - will come again. |
Subject: RE: Maybe Song Ssn Stoke N Kent Sun 28 Dec? From: VirginiaTam Date: 29 Dec 08 - 04:41 AM Yes Thank you Richard. Was a bit noisy on the bar side but we really enjoyed ourselves. It is a nice little pub. Good acoustics too or I should never have heard (Fisheye's friend I think Paul). Sorry I had a bit of the brain freeze and passed my singing turn a few times. Don't know if it was the cold or just the unfamiliar environment. Suspect it was latter. re doing it again. Maybe ask the landlord if it is worth it to him to have monthly music sessions. Would have been good, if he had come over and welcomed us, showed interest. At Blackmore the pub landlord, keeps sneaking upstairs and hangs about the door of the function room to have a listen until he is called back down to the bar. So we know we are truly welcome. As far as nibbles are concerned... if monthly session does go forward there is nothing to stop us asking for and contributing little cash towards provision of a few baskets of hot nibbles. |
Subject: RE: Maybe Song Ssn Stoke N Kent Sun 28 Dec? From: melodeonboy Date: 28 Dec 08 - 07:06 PM Generally, I think I'd go along with your comments, Richard, and it was a little frustrating at times trying to hear some of the quieter singers over the noise. However, I thought that the overall mood was positive and that people had a good time. I don't know what the situation is regarding football on the telly. I'm fairly sure that there won't be a full fixture list on the 25th Jan., as there was today, but there may well be F.A. Cup matches. Whether that makes any difference, I don't know. I suspect that they have it on all the time anyway. Best to ask the landlord on that one, I think. Provisionally, I'd be interested in another session (e.g. January) there. I shan't make any bold promises - you know, many a slip (i.e. Jumbo Gumbo gig) twixt cup and lip! Finally, thanks for organising it, Richard. I think it was well worth doing. |
Subject: RE: Maybe Song Ssn Stoke N Kent Sun 28 Dec? From: GUEST,Pete the hat Date: 28 Dec 08 - 06:22 PM Richard I would have been there old bean, if I could have got the time off. I really enjoy these folk sessions has it involves firstly drinking secondly playing and thirdly great people. We all have to miss sessions because of work. distance is nothing to me. Where theres a pub there a way I say.I can drive but choose not too. Lift or no lift. get a lift, Hitch, walk start at 6am in the morning. My Polish Girlfriends got the right hump with me she said I should have phoned in sick." She up the pole. She wanted to come and crash at mine afterwards, Which is all very well ,she dont go back to work till Jan 5th 2009.While she stays at her parents house in Chislehurst. This is not a rant this is the truth. We all had the same Par-larva with Otford and the football. I cannot see a round way that one. The same with noisey Regualars /landlords. in regards to food I got starving hungry at Rochester and went round the chip shop and brought the food back in the pub. within minutes overs followed suit and the terrific landlady and landlord said nothing. After all if one drinks it healthy to eat too boot. I have just checked my work rota and I am off the 23rd 24th 25th Jan 09. So yes second time round I will be there if it come,s off . Regards Pete. |
Subject: RE: Maybe Song Ssn Stoke N Kent Sun 28 Dec? From: Richard Bridge Date: 28 Dec 08 - 05:09 PM What's the verdict? Do we fancy doing one on Sun 25th Jan? Can anyone who studies feetball tell me whether that day is likely to be ruined by moronball on TV? I am ambivalent. We did in the barrel all but a couple of pints and the Kent's best was nice, and teh acoustics were good, but the TV was on (contrary to promises), the pub was a bit loud (with the landlord actively participating in that noise), the landlady did not bother to do any nibbles (and FFS roast tatoes are cheap), they only lit one fire and it was not adequately warm. Large percentage of no-shows indicates the location is not good for all. I'll run with the majority. |
Subject: RE: Maybe Song Ssn Stoke N Kent Sun 28 Dec? From: GUEST,Pete the hat Date: 28 Dec 08 - 02:02 PM Well I went to work folks the thought of having to leave you lot early while the session carried on was unbearable. Apart from that I could not have a drink and go to work and if the session did go on and was a good sess I would have blown work out completely so common sense prevailed in the end. Thanks again to those to offered lifts. Anyway a list of future dates?events may be handy so I can plan ahead. still I was very constuctive I stayed at home and disconnected the Spegettti of old radiator pipes around me house. And boxed in the new ones. I wonder if one can play the radiator pipes.drill holes in them and attach a tumpet mouth piece or better still reverse the process and attach them to a hooversave all that blowing. I,ll give it a go. I ,ll bring it to knockholt. It will give me something to mess about with after I have burned me Mandolin. Mandolin burning will take place on the Saturday night at Knockholt. |

We had a good session with Bishop Gundulfs (without margarine) at the Fenn Bell on boxing day, looking forward to a repeat only better. Alas Matt who did not play at the Fenn Bell will have returned to London (you remember, the brilliant guitarist who sometimes does accompaniment for Rachel) and Rachel will be on the way to York, but Royston will be down for the Nags, so if I remmber to do Ramble away in D not E his voice may survive for us to do Blood Red Roses in A rather than B!. |

Subject: RE: Maybe Song Ssn Stoke N Kent Sun 28 Dec? From: Dead Horse Date: 22 Dec 08 - 07:24 PM Pete the hat, If you are anywhere near A28 then you are bleedin' miles off route mate. Marks for homework 7/10. Must try harder. And as for bus running times, I used to run that route regular, and on a Sunday total running time was 55mins each way and it was a two hourly service leaving Chatham at 48 mins past the hour. Cowboy Arriva got 1hr 10mins for same journey weekdays. See Sunday Time Table and scroll down to Grain Buses (Sundays) Bus stop nr Strood Stn is actually the one outside Prince Of Wales pub. Bus does not stop unless you stick yer hand out. Bus is old and drafty/rickety. So is driver. Most drivers are mean an' 'ornery, wiv no sense of humour. Some have no sense of direction either. For gawds sake get yerself a lift mate! |

Subject: RE: Maybe Song Ssn Stoke N Kent Sun 28 Dec? From: GUEST,Pete the hat Date: 22 Dec 08 - 06:01 PM Right seriously.been doing me home work. and has a serious walker the route is quite stright forward, although I have been advised by Dead horse that the roads are too dangerous to walk,I quote there bad enough driving. From Strood railway station to Lower Stoke.directly down the A28. Strood station to Nags head Pub is 6.3miles. I could walk that in just over an hour. I got these details from a route finder on Google. I AM DETERMINED TO GET OUT OF WORK THAT NIGHT.SEE IF APPEARS MANAGEMENT IS JUST HAS DETEREMINED TO GET ME IN. |
Subject: RE: Maybe Song Ssn Stoke N Kent Sun 28 Dec? From: GUEST Date: 22 Dec 08 - 05:04 PM St. Rude is the nearest station. But I don't think the busses go their on Sundays. Starting from St. Rude teh local communities en route are Chavven DEEEEEEN (Chattenden) Who? (Hoo) High Arsehole (High Halstow) Fenn Street Corner (!) Upper Dogsbottom (Upper Stoke) Middle Dogsbottom (Middle Stoke) Lower Coke (Lower Stoke) and then on to the Isle of Brain (not) in one direction and Swanscombe on Marsh (ooops, Alhallows) in the other, where you can still see the Piltdown man winning pub quizzes (and brawls). Deliverance has little on us! |

Subject: RE: Maybe Song Ssn Stoke N Kent Sun 28 Dec? From: Kev The Clogs Date: 22 Dec 08 - 01:11 PM Nice to see you are doing your bit for Anglo/American relations across the pond RB - the concept of a bus to and from the Pentagon fills me with shock and awe - will we ACTUALLY have a bus that gets there, but you won't get a seat because it will be filled with Secret Servicemen (shock) AWE (excuse the pun), will GWB be making an appearance and starting out on his new solo career as a bumbling folk singer? I bet the new guy could get the bus services running better (still a bit wet during the middle bit of the journey though!!!). |
Subject: RE: Maybe Song Ssn Stoke N Kent Sun 28 Dec? From: Richard Bridge Date: 22 Dec 08 - 03:46 AM Ah-hah. According to the bus-maps you can use the 191, 197, or 796. But only the 191 on Sundays (unless I have done something wrong - check it yurself! You have in theory a 191 bus leaving the Pentagon at 11.48 am that will get you to Lower Stoke at 12.33. If it runs. Miss it and the next one is two hours later. If it runs. There is only one bus back. It leaves Lower Stoke at 16.47 (if it runs) and arrive at the Pentagon at 17.38 The next bus is early the following morning. There has been some talk of a group of people hiring an 8 seater taxi from Chatham. If it's full the price per head will probably be modest - maybe a fiver one way. Otherwise car sharing would be a good option. |
Subject: RE: Maybe Song Ssn Stoke N Kent Sun 28 Dec? From: Richard Bridge Date: 22 Dec 08 - 03:22 AM John Barden told me he had researched the busses and that it was technically possible to get here by bus on Sunday. Whether that is true on THAT Sunday may be a good question. The travel time by bus from Chatham is considerable, since the bus journey involves a circular tour of Hoo and High Halstow, I think. A bus back may be even less likely. And if a bus fails to arrive you will be stuck. |
