Subject: RE: Tune Req: Logan county blues From: GUEST,BanjoRay Date: 21 Oct 08 - 06:19 PM The original recording I believe was from Frank Hutchison who was a guitar playing coal miner from Logan County West Virginia. He recorded a bunch of tracks back in the twenties, which are now available on a Document CD. I don't know if this is the same as the wordless fiddle tune that is normally played in Old Time sessions. The fiddle tune was recorded by Fred Cockerham of Mount Airy, North Carolina, and by many others since eg Kyle Creed and Tommy Jarrel and the Freighthoppers. You can find a notated version in Phillips Vol 2 (called something like American Fiddle Tunes) by Stacey Phillips, but I've failed to find an abc file on the web. Cheers Ray |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Logan county blues From: oombanjo Date: 22 Oct 08 - 07:10 AM Thanks Ray it is the one that we play at the O.T. sessions. I have worked it out on banjo but was after the dots for sheelagh's fiddle. I have found a recording on utube with Benton Flippen. but she would still like the dots. I will try to find the book you suggested. |
