I subscribe to Acoustic Guitar and Sing Out magazines.
That says alot about my music preferences. What is the census here in Mudcat world? Do we all subscribe to a favorite magazine(s) to keep our musical hobbies updated?

In the past have subscribed to both Dirty Linen and Sing Out!. Currently in a less permanent living situation, so pick them up at bookstores. I'd love to see more of the British/Celtic magazines like Folk Roots and Living Tradition. Borders carries Irish Music, though not Performing Songwriter. Oh--I do subscribe to Music Matters, a quarterly magazine about current singer-songwriters. I miss Fast Folk something awful.

Used to get Concertina & Squeezebox, and Dirty Linen. But havn't got either one in a few years. I understand that C&S is no longer publishing. That's a shame, it was a great little mag. I even wrote for it.

Most definitely Sing Out! for folk music and Living Blues for blues.

Dirty Linen. Check out the cryptic sayings on the spine of each copy ("I hardly ever think of chipmunks anymore"), many folks who buy DL are unaware of this bit of surrrealist fun on the side binding. I also get 78RPM Quarterly and occasionaly Blues Review.

Oh, and Bass Player (which goes to the other end of the hall) and Music Clubs Magazine (which no one reads) and Banjo Newsletter (guess who?) and Cuzin' Isaac's Guide and (formerly) Strings, and the IBMA Newsletter, and a few random music catalogues disguised as magazines.

Acoustic Guitar and Dirty Linen. Before I came on-line I relied heavily on the tour schedules in the back of DL.

AND

for those of you who don't know it, Dirty Linen is published in

BALTIMORE!!!

I recently had a year's subscription for Guitar Player that I received as a gift. I let it lapse for it was not overly relevant to this acoustic guy.

Cpt. Swing, could it be you're confusing Folker! with Fokker? Or weren't you referring to my posting at all? The (moderately funny) joke is that Folker, or rather, Volker (with the l pronounced) is a German boy's name as well. If the name isn't that brilliant, the mag is certainly good, not just about the German scene - if you read German, that is. - Susanne

For those of you who are into a range of folk / blues / roots music Froots (Folk Roots) is an excellent read. If you subscribe for two years you get a free CD. You can visit their website at http://www.froots.demon.co.uk/ (sorry, no blue clicky thingy).

Brian (Mr Anderson, any chance of a reduction in my subs for this blatant plug for your truly excellent magazine?)

None now, tho' I used to take Melody Maker in the days when its subtitle was "for the best in jazz" , then Jazz Journal (later Jazz Journal International) for a few years. Now most of the people I followed are dead or retired!
