Noel Coward was your inspiration?

he declined to be in church at the opening day of his play with a retort that is, I think, is marginally funnier

"I come to Bury St Edmunds, not praise him"

Pardon the thread drift, please. I'm taking this opportunity to reach out to folks living in and around Bury St. Edmunds.

If you don't mind, I'd like to mention/promote my brother Paul's rock-n-roll gig this coming Saturday evening, March 14, at the Red Lodge, 70 Turnpike Road, Bury St Edmunds. (For any of you Facebook members out there, see the FB "event" page entitled "Jo's Birthday Bash.")

Yeah, it's not folk, AND it's not an audience-participation singaround or session. Just a good-time "classic rock" cover-band party.

Paul is a really excellent drummer with years of experience in New Orleans, playing with some of the greatest R&B musicians who ever lived: Professor Longhair, Earl King, Allen Toussaint, etc. When he sits down at the drum kit, people invariably get up to dance. Any of you living in that area who might enjoy such an evening, please be advised.

OK, that's it. Sorry for the interruption, and thanks for your indulgence. We will now return to our regularly-scheduled traditional folk discussion.

Take junction 39 off the A14 then follow the B1506 to your destination.

Sounds fun.......

Wednesday. The ever popular singaround at the Rose and Crown in Bury. Crowds are controlled by Robby and his squirrel. Only here can you actually see how a Sergeant Major would sing a folk song. Also, some of the finest voices in the area turn up here. 8:45 'ish. Attention!! Super.

Friday at the cafe 2:30 'till 5:00 pop in whilst shopping, have a coffee, sing, dance, recite or just listen. Very friendly, sometimes there's a banjo player but don't let that put you off. Super.

Looks like Petes trying to nick my job. Tomorrow, Wednesday, at the Bull in Woolpit the super singaround sesh. This is a good 'un.

Regretably one that is not so good or at least so popular is the Friday afternoon sesh at the cafe in BSE. This Friday will be the last sesh due to lack of public demand. I would like to thank all those who tried to get it up and going and maybe when things pick up we will try again. Special thanks to Robin the 'squirell' and Pete W. for their continued support and to Jason and Sara for the use of their cafe. And thanks to all those that tried to make it work.

If you go to Whepstead, you'll be on you own! It's the Greyhound at FLEMPTON, just outside Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England!

It is also a consistently good session.......

....but then, you knew that!

Best wishes,

Peter

Good food, good beer, good singing, good company. What could be better on a summer's evening in Sellig Suffolk?

How much did you get for 'sellig' Suffolk. Did I earn a beer from the result. Any ideas how we can get rid of Essex, should fetch a bomb.

A slight misunderstanding here, Folkwaller!

Selig: The oft repeated phrase, "Silly Suffolk", is actually a corruption of Selig Suffolk meaning "holy Suffolk".

Ok, Ok, I put in an extra L....but what the.....!

We sold nothing but good music that night!

...and leave Essex alone.....they've archived me!

Best wishes,

Peter

I'm hoping to get there. I drove from Felixstowe last week for the Rose and Crown session - which had been moved to this week apparently. Hopefully better luck tonight.
