So sad to hear about the news that Eileen has passed on. My she rest in peace. She was a lovely lady and a lovely singer and she was also a very kind, religious person. All of her fans and her large family will miss here. Eileen and her contemporaries really paved the way for today's Irish singers. Many of Eileen's early records are still available on www.netsounds.com and www.musicstack.com and also on ebay. If anybody wishes to contact me, my email is mrtnfos@msn.com

Having lived next door to Eileen's (or Maisie.. her real name)sister for 19 years I had the great honour to meet Maisie a few times. Of course as a five year old I didn't know who she was or what she had accomplished... but I knew one thing.. she was kind, generous and touched the lives of everyone who entered hers.

May she rest in peace.

One of the most pleasant natural voices I've ever heard; I lent my only record of her many years ago, and never got it back.

Yes she was, Patricia and Catherine, and bless you for reminding us of that fact. You have our condolences, but also our congratulations on having had such a person in your life. You may think her passing has left a hole that cannot be filled, but for us she has left a mountain of achievement to climb.

Thanks for sharing with us.

All the best,

Mick Lane

The Donaghy name is common enough in Ireland, County Tyrone would have an abundance of Donaghys.

I recorded "The Spinning Wheel" in her honour and paid tribute to her in the liner notes of my most recent album.
A little gratitude for one who still inspires me.

Mick: Thank you for the link.

I was very sad to hear the news. She was my favourite singer from the first time I heard her voice on record (bought in Dublin in 1960)-'Ireland my Ireland'. My wife and children were as captivated even haunted by her voice, so beautiful and natural.'Homes of Donegal' was our favourite

Have just picked up on this thread for the first time.

I remember Eilleen from back in the 50s when she recorded with Fontana and was a great favourite of an aunt of mine.

I recently managed to find a track of hers, Terry My Blue-Eyed Irish Boy, in a shop in Newport South Wales that stocks old vinyl.

But I cannot find the sheet music, if any, that goes with the song.

Can anyone help me?

TO-DAY IS A SAD DAY FOR ME SEPT.7 10.FOR I JUST LEARNED OF EILEEN'S DEATH. SHE HAD A BEAUTIFUL GOD GIVEN VOICE AND ONE OF THE GREATEST FRIENDS AN IRISH SONG EVER HAD. I FEEL A VERY LUCKY TO HAVE KNOWN HER AND WORKED WITH HER. EILEEN WAS SO VERY PROUD OF HER FAMILY, FRIENDS AND THE COUNTY TYRONE TEAMS. AS SHE SAID IN HER SONG I'll FOLLOW THE BOYS. A DEEPLY RELIGIOUS LADY WITH A HEART OF GOLD, SHE TOLD ME WHEN SHE FIRST RECORDED THE RECORD COMPANY HAD HER CUT SIX ALBUMS IN THREE DAYS AND GOING IN THE TAXI TO THE STUDIO SHE WAS LEARNING THE BOYS FROM THE COUNTY MAYO. MANY ARTISTS HAVE RECORDED THIS SONG BUT NOBODY WILL EVER SAY IT BETTER THAN EILEEN DONAGHY. I HOPE NOW THE RECORD COMPANY WILL GO INTO THEIR ARCHIVES AND RELEASE ALL OF EILEENS TREASURED RECORDINGS FOR ALL HER FANS OVER THE WORLD. TYRONE SHOULD ERECT A MONUMENT IN REMEMBERANCE OF THIS GREAT LADY.MY PHONE NO.954 455 5390 410 SE.2ND ST.HALLANDALE FLORIDA 33009. MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY. ANDY COURTENAY.

May I add my condolences to the above, I only knew her through her recordings, but thankfully I have a few.She had a most beautiful voice
and so obviously natural. Both myself and my father before me took great pleasure from her recordings, and what a treasure she has left behind for us all.
With sadness,
Scowie.
