Subject: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009
From: Joe G
Date: 03 Nov 08 - 06:25 PM

Hi everyone

We now have the main concerts and ticket prices confrmed for the Folk Day which is part of the first Queensbury Music Festival. Queensbury is a large friendly village which sits astride the A647 Bradford - Halifax road. The Folk Day will be Saturday 7th March and I think we have managed to pull together a great line up in a very short time.

The philosophy behind the line up was to showcase some of the finest established artists and emerging talent from across Yorkshire (with an essential element from Derbyshire) so the artists appearing include:

John Tams & Barry Coope, Coope Boyes & Simpson, Skyhook, Tom Bliss & Tom Napper, Crucible, Duncan McFarlane Electric Band, Hall Brothers, Roger Davies, Gerry McNiece Band, Pat Sherry & Stuart Douglas, Ylem, Michelle Plum & Nick B Hall

We also intend to have a number of workshops, sessions and singarounds and superb real ale all centred around the lovely Victoria Hall in the centre of the village.

We are investigating the possibility of indoor camping and parking for motorhomes but can't promise this at the moment. Anyway this line up is worth staying sober for!

See here for more details: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=423390710

Hope to meet some of you there - a Mudcat attendance book will be available!

Just a refresh for this as the advert will be appearing in local folk magazines soon and we are hoping to have a strong demand for tickets for what are limited size venues (approx 175 seats in each of the concert rooms). So a chance for 'Catters to beat the crowds (he says hopefully!) by checking out the MySpace site for ticket details (apologies for the temporary rather garish design of the site if you do go there - someone has got a bit over enthusiastic with the graphics!). There will also be singarounds and sessions for those who prefer to make their own entertainment as well as workshops.

A timely bump as it is only just over 3 weeks to the festival - hope to see some friends from here in Queensbury

On the Friday night (6 March)before the Folk Day we have a free gig with the Hut People at Raggalds Acoustic nearby and Mat Walklate & the HouseDevils will be appearing on Sunday in Queensbury, along with lots of musicians from the village playing all different types of music.

Should be a great weekend

Look forward to meeting you.

By coincidence just sorted your tickets out Bainbo (I'll leave them on the door or could post if you prefer) but see your email for a query about your Sunday requirements.

Also just had a long afternoon preparing for our final meeting tomorrow - I'm at the 'never again' stage now - especially after reading some unhelpful and ill informed comments in Tykes News - to which I will respond in the next edition!

Really looking forward to seeing new and old friends there - and of course to hearing as many as possiible of the superb artists we are featuring.

If anyone can help spread the word about the festival please do so as at the moment we have tickets left to sell.

Just a quick but huge thanks to everyone who came today (artists, audience & stewards). Hope you all enjoyed it - despite the small audience at some of the events which was very disappointing given the wealth of talent on display.

I've learned a huge amount from the experience and hopefully will be able to put my learning into practice sometime in the future.

Thanks Deidre - great to meet you and the levellers at last - glad you enjoyed it - although the Victoria Hall stage seemed to work well its such a shame that the local heroes stage did not have an audience size more worthy of the artists .

To a certain extent I was relying on an enthusiastic response from the local community to these concerts but sadly this did not materialise.

Still it was a great day and as I've said I learned a lot about festival organisation - and how to get by on little sleep!

Thanks for coming so far to support us - much appreciated!

It was nice to meet up with a few people from the past who I haven't seen for years. I didn't meet the Levellers as far as I know - I hope they weren't the ones I growled at while trying to control the door!!
Well done team!

We had a totally fantastic day. Great to meet you, Joe (thanks for all your efforts) and to finally meet Deidre as well - great craic and we'll be down to Gainsborough when we eventually get ourselves sorted out.

We thought the mix of artists was superb, the venue was perefct for a festival in March and it was all so realxed and friendly. As well as the performances we really liked the workshop with Messrs Napper and Bliss - and tell the people who did the catering that the food was excellent (as, indeed, was the beer).

We really hope that this becomes a permament fixture. If so, it'll have a permanent place in our diary.

Cheers
Pete, Jools and Holz

Yes, shame about the local heroes stage but it didn't stop Duncan doing his bit, small audience or not. I didn't see the other shows there as I was in town until 6ish

I'll post a link to Ani's photos when we've done 'em

Anyone who was in the Con Club on Saturday night - the two barmaids are my daughters. We all agreed there hadn't been enough local advertising, also as the Club almost never hosts gigs, it wouldn't have been an obvious venue, which might explain the disappointing turn out for a good gig.

Hi all

Thanks for the helpful and kind comments = really appreciated from a tired Joe G having just got back from the community music day. Looking back I think our main sin was over enthusiasm - relying on a large local audinece to swell the ranks of folkies - unfortunately these did not materialise so if we do it again I suspect we may scale down our activities until a more significant local reputation is established.

Duncan is right re the advertising - due to circumastances beyond my control it was both late and lacking in detail - also of course we did not have a festival season to build our advertising on and some unhelpful comments may not have helped.

Thanks again - I'm glad everyone enjoyed it - I just feel sorry for the chap who drove from Sheffield today to see Duncan!

Joe,

Don't be put off.... I'm sure you are onto a winner. Key thing is to learn lessons and modify where required. Maybe we can compare notes when we are with you on the 20th?

Sounds like it was artistically succesful though.... sorry we didn't make it but by the time we'd done Whitby on Friday and Ingleton on Saturday the kids were a bit folked off and we were a tad tired!

Cheers
