Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: GUEST,Joe G Date: 12 Mar 09 - 01:53 PM Hi - thanks for the comments and for coming to sing! As an ex traffic engineer though I couldn't really approve of using illegal signs to advertise the festival lol! The publicity does need some work though and I am sure we will have this sorted if we go for it again with more time to prepare |
Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: GUEST Date: 12 Mar 09 - 10:35 AM Hi! from Captain Farrell. On the saturday afternoon I sang some songs upstairs at the Victoria hall easy room to sing in.I think there were some comments about lack of local poeple attending. Folkies find thing out for themselves but Jo public need signs on every lamp post as they are driving through the village.Even after ten years plus at Saddleworth Fest I still hear poeple saying I didn`t know it was on. So I suppose one answer you can`t have to much publicity. Rgds. Captain Farrell |

Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: Folkiedave Date: 11 Mar 09 - 03:03 PM Can I just point out Joe it is the regulated entertainment that needs a licence. The fact that there might/might not be a bar is irrelevant. |
Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: GUEST,Joe G Date: 11 Mar 09 - 02:06 PM I must admit the 'never again' feelings I had in the stressful weeks before the event are starting to fade................. The worst moment was the Monday before the festival when I thought I didn't have an event licence that I found we needed - fortunately, after distractedly nearly running several people over on the way back from the meeting with the fire service, I found that the brewery had got the temporary event notice which we needed for the music as well as the bar! Scary 30 minutes! |

Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: Joe G Date: 11 Mar 09 - 09:27 AM Thanks very much - I feel all warm and squidgy now - I'll pass on your kind comments to the stewards and others you mention who may not visit here. I intended the day to be a reflection of the very best music from the north of England at the moment and, judging by the comments here, it seems that I may have suceeded. |
Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: GUEST,slynes Date: 11 Mar 09 - 05:42 AM Wonderful day at Victoria Hall. When I praised the music, food, beer on my evaluation sheet I forgot to highlight as well the face painting, the excellent sound quality & the cheerful and friendly stewarding - many thanks. In a totally excellent lineup, of course the sublime Mr Tams and his partner Mr Coope stand out - but only just! We specially loved Crucible and Gerry McNeice & Co but were blown away in the graveyard slot by Pat Sharry and his pal with their delightful opening set. Many, many thanks. |

Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: Joe G Date: 10 Mar 09 - 09:10 AM Hi again all I am considering borrowing some of the kind comments here to include in a report about the festival to the Council, along with comments I have received through email and the evaluation sheets. Please let me know if you would prefer your comment not to be included in this report. I believe it will help in attracting funding for next year's event if I can evidence positive feedback Cheers Joe G |

Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: Joe G Date: 09 Mar 09 - 09:04 AM Thanks Tom - much appreciated. I always knew my being a control freak would come in useful one day! I just wish I could seen more of everyones performances during the day. Luckily I did manage to catch Gerry's 'Braw Sailing' (beautiful) and Tom's God Speed (well what can I say?) in the afternoon - I was relaxed enough by the time Crucible were on to catch most of their set (fantastic - book them now) and John & Barry's (alternately sublime and hilarious as always) On Sunday I caught up with the Old Spot Beers - probably a few too many - while we had some brilliant perfomances from local school children and more great local bands. |
Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: GUEST,Tom Bliss Date: 09 Mar 09 - 08:42 AM Just adding our thanks Joe. Tom and I both had a great time, and were particularly impressed by the organisation, which was right up there with the very best. T |
Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: Joe G Date: 09 Mar 09 - 08:38 AM Thanks again everyone for the further supportive comments. I've just emailed the Director in charge of Council leisure facilities to highlight the huge support we had from the Victoria Hall staff who were just brilliant. Thanks Dave for pulling together the Stags Head session - I only got a chance to pop in quickly over Sat teatime but it certainly looks to be one of the highlights of the weekend and I know the landlord was delighted. Really looking forward to seeing the pictures Gerry and huge thanks to Ani for taking them. I'll put the best ones up on the MySpace site and post here when I have done so For me now its a question of seeing how the finances all pan out before we have our review meeting next week then I can sit and watch the 60 hors of TV programmes I've missed over the last 5 months! |

Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: GUEST,MC Fat (at work) Date: 09 Mar 09 - 06:57 AM Joe had good reports from the Crucible mob they said event was great. Don't worry about lack of attendances at your Local Hero's sometimes things just don't work. Just learn from what you've done and tweek it. Perhaps the Local Hero's might have been better on Sunday or even Friday either way you've had a success and that's brill for a first event. |

Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: GerryMc Date: 09 Mar 09 - 05:28 AM and we were a tad tired! shouldn't that be a trad tired Paul? I think it was a sterling effort by all concerned and I hope the powers that be can allow it to go ahead next year, with more advertising and networking etc etc. We'll be editing photos today Joe so we'll get 'em to you asap. Gerry :-) |

Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: Banjiman Date: 09 Mar 09 - 04:23 AM Joe, Don't be put off.... I'm sure you are onto a winner. Key thing is to learn lessons and modify where required. Maybe we can compare notes when we are with you on the 20th? Sounds like it was artistically succesful though.... sorry we didn't make it but by the time we'd done Whitby on Friday and Ingleton on Saturday the kids were a bit folked off and we were a tad tired! Cheers Paul |
Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: GUEST,Hellene Date: 08 Mar 09 - 07:50 PM Not getting at anyone over the advertising, I hasten to add. I know how these things happen. |
Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: GUEST,Joe G Date: 08 Mar 09 - 07:42 PM Hi all Thanks for the helpful and kind comments = really appreciated from a tired Joe G having just got back from the community music day. Looking back I think our main sin was over enthusiasm - relying on a large local audinece to swell the ranks of folkies - unfortunately these did not materialise so if we do it again I suspect we may scale down our activities until a more significant local reputation is established. Duncan is right re the advertising - due to circumastances beyond my control it was both late and lacking in detail - also of course we did not have a festival season to build our advertising on and some unhelpful comments may not have helped. Thanks again - I'm glad everyone enjoyed it - I just feel sorry for the chap who drove from Sheffield today to see Duncan! |
Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: GUEST,GUEST: Hellene Date: 08 Mar 09 - 07:34 PM Anyone who was in the Con Club on Saturday night - the two barmaids are my daughters. We all agreed there hadn't been enough local advertising, also as the Club almost never hosts gigs, it wouldn't have been an obvious venue, which might explain the disappointing turn out for a good gig. |
Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: theleveller Date: 08 Mar 09 - 04:01 PM Awwwww. If I could have been in two places at once, I'd have been at both concerts. Unfortunately, I'm only superhuman. |
Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: BusyBee Paul Date: 08 Mar 09 - 03:43 PM Gerry, as we know, NOTHING stops Duncan doing his bit! ;-) How's your glitter today?. Deirdre |
Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: GerryMc Date: 08 Mar 09 - 03:26 PM We had a great time. It was a long day but an enjoyable one. We really enjoyed our slot on the Victoria Hall stage. Yes, shame about the local heroes stage but it didn't stop Duncan doing his bit, small audience or not. I didn't see the other shows there as I was in town until 6ish I'll post a link to Ani's photos when we've done 'em Gerry :-) |
Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: Bainbo Date: 08 Mar 09 - 01:06 PM Thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, meeting old friends and being introduced to a lot of artists who were new to us. When's the next one? |
Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: theleveller Date: 08 Mar 09 - 11:40 AM "I didn't meet the Levellers as far as I know - I hope they weren't the ones I growled at while trying to control the door!!" Don't remember being growled at - everyone was incredibly friendly - we did arrive a bit early though and the catering folks very kindly let us have an early coffee. |
Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: theleveller Date: 08 Mar 09 - 11:36 AM We had a totally fantastic day. Great to meet you, Joe (thanks for all your efforts) and to finally meet Deidre as well - great craic and we'll be down to Gainsborough when we eventually get ourselves sorted out. We thought the mix of artists was superb, the venue was perefct for a festival in March and it was all so realxed and friendly. As well as the performances we really liked the workshop with Messrs Napper and Bliss - and tell the people who did the catering that the food was excellent (as, indeed, was the beer). We really hope that this becomes a permament fixture. If so, it'll have a permanent place in our diary. Cheers Pete, Jools and Holz |

Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: Cath Date: 08 Mar 09 - 07:51 AM I had an excellent day - brilliant line up and quality performances in the Victoria Hall. It was nice to meet up with a few people from the past who I haven't seen for years. I didn't meet the Levellers as far as I know - I hope they weren't the ones I growled at while trying to control the door!! Well done team! Cath |
Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: GUEST,Joe G Date: 07 Mar 09 - 08:53 PM Thanks Deidre - great to meet you and the levellers at last - glad you enjoyed it - although the Victoria Hall stage seemed to work well its such a shame that the local heroes stage did not have an audience size more worthy of the artists . To a certain extent I was relying on an enthusiastic response from the local community to these concerts but sadly this did not materialise. Still it was a great day and as I've said I learned a lot about festival organisation - and how to get by on little sleep! Thanks for coming so far to support us - much appreciated! |
Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: BusyBee Paul Date: 07 Mar 09 - 08:27 PM Joe, I had a fantastic day - I pity them wot missed it all!. Nice to meet you and Mr & Mrs Leveller and Holly too. Deirdre |
Subject: RE: Queensbury Music Festival 7/8 March 2009 From: GUEST,Joe G Date: 07 Mar 09 - 07:44 PM Just a quick but huge thanks to everyone who came today (artists, audience & stewards). Hope you all enjoyed it - despite the small audience at some of the events which was very disappointing given the wealth of talent on display. I've learned a huge amount from the experience and hopefully will be able to put my learning into practice sometime in the future. |
