Subject: Worcester Sprout Festival From: GUEST,Gadaffi Date: 04 Nov 08 - 05:13 AM According to last Sunday's Observer, there is to be a Brussels Sprout festival at Worcester on Nocvember 14-15th. , featuring all things cultural and culinary to do with this maligned vegetable. This includes 'sprout dancing'. What dance phenomenon is this? Bearing in mind this is Cotswold Morris country, I wonder if any Catter from the West Midlands knows anything more? |

Subject: RE: Worcester Sprout Festival From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 04 Nov 08 - 10:14 AM I used to dislike Brussel sprouts until a friend told me to cut them in half and place them, cut side down in a skillet with butter or olvie oil. Brown slightly, then cover and steam gently. They're almost good that way. As for 'Felice's now legendary sprouty cake,' is that supposed to be 'legendary' or 'mythical'? |

Subject: RE: Worcester Sprout Festival From: Folkiedave Date: 04 Nov 08 - 01:22 PM Ingredients: * 200g caster sugar * 150 ml vegetable oil * 4 eggs * 250g self raising flour * pinch of salt * 2 tsp of ground cinnamon * 250g Sprouts finely shredded * 250 grated carrots * 150g chopped walnuts Method: 1. Line a baking tin with silicone paper. 2. Beat the eggs, sugar and oil for a couple of minutes, add the flour, salt and cinnamon and carry on mixing for a minute. 3. Fold in the grated carrots, sprouts and walnuts. Pour the mix in the lined dish and cook in a preheated oven at 180°C for 50 to 60 minutes, (until a toothpick inserted in the middle come out dry). 4. The cake can be served on it's own, or you might like to enrich it by mixing some natural yogurt and icing sugar and pouring it over the cake. But as everyone including Les Barker knows - "Sprouts are for Throwing". |

Subject: RE: Worcester Sprout Festival From: Valmai Goodyear Date: 04 Nov 08 - 02:44 PM Ron Spicer, son of George Spicer, used to sing a music hall song called 'I'm Just Beginning to Sprout'. As a child I decided that the only way to deal with sprouts was to swallow them whole. The resulting bruised throat was worth enduring as it allowed me to leave the table instead of spending much of Sunday afternoon staring at a plate of sprouts in congealing gravy. Valmai (Lewes) |
