I would like to have the lyrics to this song. I don't remember who recorded this, but it was popular in the late 50s or early 60s.

Freddy and The Dreamers, a rear-echelon contingent of the British Invasion era, did their version on th LP "Do The Freddy", now long - and mercifully - out of print. (Might have been on Mercury records, but I can't swear to it.)

Correction: For what it's worth, Freddy and the Dreamers did "Cut Across Shorty" on the Mercury album "Frantic Freddy", not "Do the Freddy".

Subject: Lyr Add: CUT ACROSS SHORTY (Wilkin/Walker)
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 12 Jun 11 - 01:05 PM

You can hear this song at YouTube. YouTube also has several other versions.

Words and music by Marijohn Wilkin and Wayne P. Walker
As sung by Eddie Cochran

1. Now a country boy called Shorty and a city boy named Dan
Had to prove who could run the fastest to win Miss Lucy's hand.
Now, Dan had all the money and he also had the looks,
But Shorty must 'a' had something, boys, that can't be found in books.

CHORUS: "Well, cut across, Shorty; Shorty, cut across."
That's what Miss Lucy said.
"Cut across, Shorty; Shorty, cut across.
It's you I want to wed."

2. Now Dan had been in trainin' a week before the race.
He'd made up his mind old Shorty would end in second place;
And Dan with his long legs a-flyin' left Shorty far behind;
And Shorty heard him holler out, "Miss Lucy, you'll soon be mine."

3. But Shorty wasn't worried; there was a smile upon his face.
He knew that he was a-going to win 'cause Lucy had fixed the race;
And just like that ol' story about the turtle and the hare,
When Dan crossed over the finish line, he found Shorty waitin' there.
