Subject: RE: Folklore: Poppy Leaf Angle From: GUEST,AlEthKaL Date: 06 Nov 12 - 05:18 PM I was always under the impression that a leaf on a poppy should always be at 11o'clock...ie 11th hour...11th day...11th month.???? |
Subject: RE: Poppy Leaf Angle From: Alan Day Date: 10 Nov 08 - 06:24 AM I have received an official Email from the British Legion that puts this subject to bed. I quote "There are no rules about wearing your lapel poppy - except that it should be worn with pride and respect. If people want to wear it at 11am they certainly may". I shall pass a copy of this Email on to the person that gave me the 11 O'clock angle information in good faith and in all sincerity. Al |
Subject: RE: Poppy Leaf Angle From: gnomad Date: 10 Nov 08 - 04:27 AM I have not heard any such, and incline towards Rowan's theory. I am unsure how long there has even been a leaf, with the old wire-stemmed poppies the little twist in the wire that kept them together was right behind the red petal. |
Subject: RE: Poppy Leaf Angle From: Alan Day Date: 10 Nov 08 - 04:06 AM I think I will ask The British Legion,if anyone will know they should. I will report back with their reply. Al |
Subject: RE: Poppy Leaf Angle From: Effsee Date: 09 Nov 08 - 10:41 PM There were many more who died after the elventh hour... |
Subject: RE: Poppy Leaf Angle From: Dave Swan Date: 09 Nov 08 - 09:51 PM Don't know about the poppy leaf. My brother and I talked just yesterday about the story my grandmother used to tell about her friend who was shot dead at 10:00. Damn. |
Subject: RE: Poppy Leaf Angle From: Rowan Date: 09 Nov 08 - 09:11 PM Not in Oz, Alan. It sounds like someone's trying to create their own bit of lore. Cheers, Rowan |
Subject: Poppy Leaf Angle From: Alan Day Date: 09 Nov 08 - 05:24 PM I heard yesterday that the green leaf sold with the Poppy for Remembrance Sunday should be at the angle of approximately Eleven O'clock the time of the Ceremony.I must say that I have never heard this before and it certainly is not commonly known as TV Presenters,The Prime Minister and just about all non servicemen wore the leaf at all angles. I certainly find it interesting and I wondered if there were any of you that have heard this before ? Alan |
