I wonder how many were pressed? - Ah it were all different in them days son - no computers so that any tom dick or harry can burn a cd My favourite on a disc of favourites is the Footplate Song - the life of thousands of men in a nutshell - and it could so easily have been Dave's |

Subject: RE: Review: Attn. Dave Goulder fans From: John MacKenzie Date: 13 Nov 08 - 06:00 AM Well, as stated on Mudcat, Dave is doing a long overdue mini tour in August 2009, centred around a booking at Broadstairs FF. He is doing a few other gigs, and I have spoken to a couple of other clubs, to see if they might give him a booking as well. Unfortunately August isn't a good time for bookings, as quite a few close down for that month. I will find out the dates he has booked so far, and if anyone can offer him another one or two, they can contact him directly, using the details on his site, that is linked above. JM |
Subject: RE: Review: Attn. Dave Goulder fans From: GUEST,Rafflesbear Date: 12 Nov 08 - 04:51 PM Dave's railway songs are unique in the working detail and social insight that only a man who worked his time on the footplate could give. And unlike the attempts of many others the technical detail doesn't jar - the whole thing works as a record of railway history, social history and wonderfully executed song The long narrow shovel, the lengthman, the pockets full of coal, the sheep with the smouldering back, the detonators banging on the line. Not from Dave bland lines of 'freight train freight train going so fast' or 'the rock island line is a mighty fine line' Ewan McColl tried and failed to entwine railway operation with song in his railway ballad for radio. Only Dave Goulder made it work so brilliantly and with footplate humour to boot Proud to say I have Requiem on vinyl :-) (as well as both railway cds) and I have had over thirty years pleasure from it since I picked it up in Dobells in London What I would like to know though is how do you get that well connected that you get Maddy Prior to play spoons for you ! |

Subject: RE: Review: Attn. Dave Goulder fans From: maeve Date: 12 Nov 08 - 08:39 AM This is a cd I need to have. The earlier versions of these songs were both entertaining and enjoyable; this cd is a welcome extension. And would you look at the line-up of musicians? Thanks for the the thread, Effsee. Very nice, Dave. This news rates a taste of Aberlour; To your health! maeve |
