Subject: Banjo teacher in L.A. area? From: Chris Seymour Date: 16 Jun 99 - 11:23 PM Someone I recently met at a friend's wedding who lives in the LA area is looking for a banjo teacher. She seems to want to learn bluegrass; I didn't try to persuade her of the beauty of clawhammer (the style I like to play), and I didn't have my banjo to demonstrate the difference... Anybody know of a banjo teacher in La-la land? Any leads appreciated. |

Woodland Hills (in the Valley) has a big San Fernando Valley Banjo Band and the guy who leads/organizes it might have leads to an instructor...Blue Ridge Pickin'Parlor [PH (818)700-8288] will have George's number. George is the guy who leads the San Fernando Valley Banjo Band, I assume? Thanks for the lead, Mary Chris |
Subject: RE: Banjo teacher in L.A. area? From: John Hindsill Date: 17 Jun 99 - 10:18 PM Chris, have your friend contact the Fret House in Covina...they're in the book. McCabe's in Santa Monica, a bit far but good teachers. Also, might check with Bob Stane at the Coffee Gallery in Altadena...he might have a suggestion or two. Don't know of any teachers here in La Crescenta.---John |
Subject: RE: Banjo teacher in L.A. area? From: John Hindsill Date: 17 Jun 99 - 10:23 PM Better idea just hit me. He should contact Pedrini Music on Foothill Blvd.; almost bet the mortgage they would have a list of teachers in area. Hey everybody in UK, Canada, Oz and elsewhere, doesn't this sound a bit parochial? |
Subject: RE: Banjo teacher in L.A. area? From: SingsIrish Songs Date: 18 Jun 99 - 03:18 AM Chris, Yes, George is the contact person for the San Fernando Valley Banjo Band... Actually, Frank at the Blue Ridge Pickin' Parlor (20246 Saticoy St. btwn Winnetka and Oso) gives banjo lessons. But the location may be out of the way. They have a website as well: Blue Ridge Pickin Parlor I am new to the LA area, but looking at the map on the back of the phone directory, La Crescenta appears to be within "The Valley"'s phone directory calling area.
