Mike and Johnny Coppin played Pontardawe Festival a couple of years ago. The pairing moved their music up to another dimention which I enjoyed tremendously.

Mike visited us at the Celtic Music Radio studios a few weeks ago to speak to Ciaran Dorris, and we have recorded a couple of hours of material - a "Desert Islands Disks" style of interview. We'll be editing this down and using it on one of Ciaran's shows in the near future. We haven't set a definite transmission date yet, but it's likely to be this side of Christmas. Ciaran's usual slot is on a Sunday from 5-7.

I'll post something here when we have a transmission date.

I can barely recall who I am these days, let alone who's playing where, but I checked out the rest of his gigs up to Christmas, but he's not down this way. I'll try to remember to look, but if you could give me a nudge if he's at Otterton or Exeter again, that'd help and I'll try and get there this time round if I can. Can't get too much further out than that, no car, don't drive and crappy buses... :0(

I've *still* to see him live, but one day...one day...

Meanwhile I make do listening to his 'Solid Silver' CD and 'Roadworks'....although at the moment I can't find 'Solid Silver' *anywhere*, but I know it's here, because I saw it just the other day...Grrrr!

I bought 'Solid Silver' first, and was so impressed that 'Roadworks' followed pretty shortly afterwards. I heard about Mike on the old BBC board, a few years back now. People kept mentioning him, saying how good he was, and you know what? They were darn right.

Because of this thread, I've just today ordered his new CD 'How Many Rivers' Yup, Mike Silver is costing me a small fortune! :0) His songs cover any and every subject under the sun, some are very moving, no..*many* are very moving, and he sings them beautifully too.
Can't recommend him highly enough.

I saw him playing over here with Allan Taylor a few years back. I was also impressed by his courtesy, which extended to having made the effort to learn to speak very passable German.

He is certainly in my top 5 UK songwriter/performers. No idea what his fee might be but quality is assured!

Will be great if he is booked at Gainsborough as its down the road he he sooz you knew that anyway!!!!
I really love his song Jackaroo wow what a talent he used to perform with Allan taylor I saw them together many years ago sowing my age.

I love his music. Maybe one day he will venture to the Sunray, in deepest Dorset.
Don't often see him in this area, but he often gets to Wimborne Folk Festival.

"Pretoria" remains my favourite. Another favourite but one he no longer sings, is "No way that I".

I personally cover "Old fashioned Saturday night"

Oh, and I love North Cornwall!!!!

I had 'Roadworks' on cassette for years and it was probably the most played tape in the car! I bought it from him whe he was booked at our festival years ago and have not seen him since - Thanks for reminding me:-D

He played the Wee Folk Club in the Royal Oak in Edinburgh last Sunday (sadly I missed it)

He is indeed one seriously talented songwriter and guitarist. Plays lot of Open D which is a big plus imo.

I still recall his version of "Sitting on Top of the World" (the Mississippi Sheiks song, not the Al Jolson song) which in my humble opinion is the best I have ever heard.

I would really love to see Mike silver booked in the area again its been too many years since seeing him play, he is truly a gifted songwriter and great guitarist and vocalist.
if any club organisers out there are arranging an evening of Mike please post to this thread as I would love to see him again I understand his price may be a little higher than most but the better known the act the more attention surely and I dont mind paying the extra bucks to see him.
