Subject: RE: Mike silver From: GUEST,Cas Casbar Date: 19 Nov 08 - 09:32 AM Mike and Johnny Coppin played Pontardawe Festival a couple of years ago. The pairing moved their music up to another dimention which I enjoyed tremendously. www.casbar.co.uk |
Subject: RE: Mike silver From: bruceCMR Date: 18 Nov 08 - 02:42 PM Mike visited us at the Celtic Music Radio studios a few weeks ago to speak to Ciaran Dorris, and we have recorded a couple of hours of material - a "Desert Islands Disks" style of interview. We'll be editing this down and using it on one of Ciaran's shows in the near future. We haven't set a definite transmission date yet, but it's likely to be this side of Christmas. Ciaran's usual slot is on a Sunday from 5-7. I'll post something here when we have a transmission date. Bruce http://www.celticmusicradio.net |
Subject: RE: Mike silver From: Lizzie Cornish 1 Date: 18 Nov 08 - 11:39 AM I saw that Jean, and I went "********!!!" I can barely recall who I am these days, let alone who's playing where, but I checked out the rest of his gigs up to Christmas, but he's not down this way. I'll try to remember to look, but if you could give me a nudge if he's at Otterton or Exeter again, that'd help and I'll try and get there this time round if I can. Can't get too much further out than that, no car, don't drive and crappy buses... :0( Ah, Country Life, eh! :0) |
Subject: RE: Mike silver From: GUEST,Jean Date: 18 Nov 08 - 08:04 AM A nicer guy you couldnt wish to meet, a fabulous voice and not a bad album amongst them! Mike and Johnny were playing up the road from you Lizzie on Friday at Exeter! Keep your eye on his website. He is coming to Morwellham Quay May 4th |
Subject: RE: Mike silver From: Lizzie Cornish 1 Date: 17 Nov 08 - 06:02 PM I've *still* to see him live, but one day...one day... Meanwhile I make do listening to his 'Solid Silver' CD and 'Roadworks'....although at the moment I can't find 'Solid Silver' *anywhere*, but I know it's here, because I saw it just the other day...Grrrr! I bought 'Solid Silver' first, and was so impressed that 'Roadworks' followed pretty shortly afterwards. I heard about Mike on the old BBC board, a few years back now. People kept mentioning him, saying how good he was, and you know what? They were darn right. Because of this thread, I've just today ordered his new CD 'How Many Rivers' Yup, Mike Silver is costing me a small fortune! :0) His songs cover any and every subject under the sun, some are very moving, no..*many* are very moving, and he sings them beautifully too. Can't recommend him highly enough. |
Subject: RE: Review: Mike silver From: alanabit Date: 17 Nov 08 - 11:31 AM I saw him playing over here with Allan Taylor a few years back. I was also impressed by his courtesy, which extended to having made the effort to learn to speak very passable German. |

Subject: RE: Review: Mike silver From: SunrayFC Date: 17 Nov 08 - 04:02 AM I love his music. Maybe one day he will venture to the Sunray, in deepest Dorset. Don't often see him in this area, but he often gets to Wimborne Folk Festival. "Pretoria" remains my favourite. Another favourite but one he no longer sings, is "No way that I". I personally cover "Old fashioned Saturday night" Oh, and I love North Cornwall!!!! |
Subject: RE: Review: Mike silver From: Sooz Date: 17 Nov 08 - 03:38 AM Haven't seen him for a few years but I play his CDs a lot. You've given me an idea for next years Gainsborough Folk Festival! |
Subject: RE: Review: Mike silver From: Steve Shaw Date: 16 Nov 08 - 07:34 PM He's a long-time denizen of north Cornwall (still, as far as I know) and he supports Liverpool. That's good enough for me! |

Subject: RE: Review: Mike silver From: Dave the Gnome Date: 16 Nov 08 - 06:19 PM I had 'Roadworks' on cassette for years and it was probably the most played tape in the car! I bought it from him whe he was booked at our festival years ago and have not seen him since - Thanks for reminding me:-D DeG |
Subject: RE: Review: Mike silver From: Murray MacLeod Date: 16 Nov 08 - 06:07 PM Mike Silver website He played the Wee Folk Club in the Royal Oak in Edinburgh last Sunday (sadly I missed it) He is indeed one seriously talented songwriter and guitarist. Plays lot of Open D which is a big plus imo. I still recall his version of "Sitting on Top of the World" (the Mississippi Sheiks song, not the Al Jolson song) which in my humble opinion is the best I have ever heard. |
Subject: RE: Review: Mike silver From: Jeri Date: 16 Nov 08 - 06:00 PM What Geoff said. I don't know who this guy is or where 'in the area' might be and--call me silly--a review. |
Subject: RE: Review: Mike silver From: Geoff the Duck Date: 16 Nov 08 - 05:32 PM Give us a clue... Mudcat regulars post from several continents. Narrow it down. Which one do you want to know about? Quack! GtD. |
Subject: Review: Mike silver From: Pianomansibs Date: 16 Nov 08 - 05:22 PM I would really love to see Mike silver booked in the area again its been too many years since seeing him play, he is truly a gifted songwriter and great guitarist and vocalist. if any club organisers out there are arranging an evening of Mike please post to this thread as I would love to see him again I understand his price may be a little higher than most but the better known the act the more attention surely and I dont mind paying the extra bucks to see him. Simon. |
