Howard is playing a solo gig at Fleetwood Folk Club Steamer Hotel on Thursday 15th March starting at 20. 15. This is the club's 49th year of existence and Howard was one of the founders. Still a brilliant clever lyricist and fine musician.

Hi Howard,
Don't know why, for what reason, that your name popped up in my memory but..... this is a long long time ago, somewhere about 35 years ago, I was running a coffeshop in Antwerp, called "Het Corael" and for some reason you had choosen my place to play your guitarm to sing your songs in my place... And even if I didn't mention it with too many words, I was very pleased with your coming along.....
I went through many things / jobs since than, finally found my vocation in Turkey where I'm working as a tourleader since 1986. I'm very glad to read that you're still living for the music, still making records.... and I would be glad if I could listen to some of your music... and who knows, if we could meet again, somewhere, in some place, some time.... who knows!
All the best and i will try to find some more things about you and your music!

Thanks everyone for the nice comments in this thread. Alan Taylor - I have a very vague memory of the skinny dipping, was Mick Smith also with us?! I have some very good memories of my time in Salford and the Prestwich area. Derek Smith - I also have very many pleasant memories of my time in North London, we played at both Bounds Green (Sunday) and The Peelers (Saturday). I seem to remember that the three of us in Bonded Boots received £1 each for each gig (and that payed for our beer and an Indian meal afterwards!). Alam Whittle - may I return the compliment, I was very impressed with your songs, particularly the 'brides in the bath' one (I have a faintly similar one about the Hay Poisoner). I am currently writing about the period of 1970/71 and the folk scene around North London and Bonded Boots came to mind. I was a regular at the Bounds Green Folk Club and often enjoyed Bonded Boots (ostensibly the support group) much more than the main guests! I particularly liked their renditions of 'Lancashire Fusiliers' and 'Stealin' (which Howard kindly gave me the words and chords to), 'Merry England' (written by Howard) and 'Cloudy' (Paul Simon). Looks like I missed their recent reunion - how about another one down south?

I Knew Howard & his Then partner Katja. I also booked him for a folk club I was running in Prestwich. I have a lot of good memories of Howard. I also have a copy of Love Moves. Does he remember skinny dipping in fleetwood after a gig in salford. Would like to get in touch again

I'm in the process of preparing artist's bios for the 2010 Fylde Folk Festival souvenir programme. Here follows the basis for the entry on Howard Bond:-

"Howard Bond

Howard Bond has played in and around the folk scene for the last 40 years. Along with Dave Walters, in the fondly-remembered duo "Bonded Boots", Howard founded Fleetwood Folk Club. The duo expanded to a trio and moved to London where they quickly established themselves in the folk-clubs of the south-east. They eventually split, and each pursued solo careers. For Howard, this meant performing self-penned songs to appreciative audiences throughout England and the continent. He settled in Belgium for six years until returning to the north west of England at the end of the 1980s. Since then Howard has played in a variety of bands on the periphery of the folk scene, but now he is back performing solo again with a brand new batch of songs. He released a CD last May entitled "A Storytelling of Rooks" which was very well received, being featured on Radio Lancashire and Radio Merseyside. The 14 new compositions varied in style and subject matter, from "Help the Poor Struggler" about public hangman Albert Pierrepoint, to "Caterpillars Don't Believe in Butterflies", a children's song taking a humourous look at a possible after-life. While self-penned, the songs are rooted in the traditional idiom both in structure and storytelling content. Howard's new CD, "Dancing On Clouds" was released earlier this year, and he will be featuring songs from both of these recordings at this year's festival. If you can get along to see him your efforts will not go unrewarded!"


As Ron Baxter mentioned above, Howard has been a regular visitor to the weekly Irish sessions (now at the Old Town Hall, next to St Chad's in Poulton-le Fylde).

For Fleetwood Folk Club's 40th Anniversary celebrations last September, Howard Bond and Dave Walters got together again for a one-off re-union of Bonded Boots. The concert brought many old friends of the club and the duo together for a rare night's entertainment.

Howard will be performing in various concert settings over the Fylde week-end (3rd, 4th, 5th September, 2010).

I've got Howards LP "Love Moves" but it doesn't have the song I would love to learn which is "When Danny bow's the string" (probably not the correct title) but it tells the story of a fiddle kept in a bar in Manchester which came to life when the old fiddle player took her up and played her. The first time I heard the song I was struck by the beauty of it and here I am 30 years plus down the line thinking I would like to find it, surely the sign of a powerful song. If anyone sees Howard could they pass this on to him and ask him if he could contact me through Mudcat.

Years ago I remember that he entered "Body on the Line" in the Royal Exchange song competition. I think it got in the final and lost - so did we, and we also lost. Trouble is that I've forgotten the song we entered!!

Howard is alive & well, & back living in his home town of Fleetwood, he still plays occasionaly in the Sundau night 'Irish' jam session at the North Euston Hotel, playing fiddle.

Does anyone recall Howard Bond, a singer songwriter from Salford back in the 70's, is he still about, he wrote some cracking songs including one of my favourites "Body on the Line" which I sing now and again
