I know this isn't the place for adverts but I hope you'll forgive this announcement:

After a 15 year lay off Ran Tan are reforming for some gigs in 2009. Original members Simon Booth, Martin Ellison, Fiona Fahlin and Martin Hazell will be joined by various guests for fun and frolics at dances nationwide.

We also hope to have reissues of the band's two albums, The Big Cheese and Rainy Day available in the new year.

Any offers?

One for Brighouse methinks?

Simon, many times winner of the Guradian Prize Corssword, is one of the intellectual giants of English folk music.

Excellent news.

I have been given the poisoned chalice of trying to resurect the tapes...Anybody got a Revox or preferably a Studer?
Oh and Mr Ellison....How can people flock to book you?? Some sort of contact details perhaps?
Any possible bookers go look for Martins Facebook page.

Hi Jim....
It's between me and John Adams at the moment!
Not sure what the tapes are, might be multitracks....and if anybody has a machine that will play them!!
But, thanks for the offer!
Kind regards....watch this space.
Yep, go and join the facebook group for further updates. (and very silly photos)
Have to say that this is so exciting. Lock up your daughters. Ran Tan is coming, Be Very Afraid!

Point taken Ralphie

Not sure how to do these things but I'll have a stab at:

martindotellisonathotmaildotcodotuk

The wax cylinders might be a bigger problem than the tapes.

Martin -
Looking forward to hearing the band again. I still have a couple of tape machines around - a Tandberg stereo recorder and a Teac four-track. The Tandberg was working earlier this year, it's a lot longer since I used the Teac. Available if you can use them.

We're planning to come over to the Moorbrook session Friday (21st Nov). See you there?

Ross

This is the place for discussion and adverts are a part of that.

There have been plenty of favourable comments about the reformation. One from a well known listmeister who is not partial to reformation normally.

A recent problem with bands going back to do ceilidhs I have heard in recent years is the experience of Shrewsbury Festival & the Oysterband. They have a concert following who followed them onto the dance floor and to the detriment of the dancing. In no small part, my informant told me. Predictable with hindsight but how many organisers there dance? Actually dance on their own dance floor?

Given the circumstances in both cases I would like to dance to the Ran Tan Band, but not Oysterband. Word of mouth is pretty powerful.

There is now a website (still under construction) but it contains a track recorded live at BBC Pebble Mill many years ago. Have a listen.

Tried to create a clicky but failed.

They're playing for us on October 17th: Ryburn Barn Dance, Brighouse, W Yorks

But you'll need your passport.

You know what they say - Wars of the Roses - as yet no result!

Site not yet updated for next season but here's the link .

Thanks, John. Long time to wait but I'll try to remember. As an immigrant to these parts, I have to remain above these local skirmishes and take no sides. As you obviously recognize, a great band is a great band is a great band - wherever they're from.

Great that Ran Tan are making a comeback and that they are coming back to Dance House which has had a break of over 5 years. Who knows, we might be tempted to do another ceilidh If people flock to this one!! Can't want to hear that Ran Tan sound again...
