Subject: RE: Mick Ryan and Paul Downes, Edinburgh FC From: treewind Date: 21 Nov 08 - 08:20 AM Yup, they're both well worth going out of your way to hear. "Don't miss them - you won't be disappointed." What Keith said! There's also a show (and double CD of same, not released yet) written by Mick Ryan and called The Navvy's Wife - I've heard a very early rough mix of the first CD and it's going to be fabulous, and the show is already doing well. Look out for that one too. Both Mick and Paul are in that, with Jackie Oates, Judy Dunlop and Heather Bradford - terrific stuff. Anahata |
Subject: RE: Mick Ryan and Paul Downes, Edinburgh FC From: Derby Ram Date: 21 Nov 08 - 05:11 AM We booked Mick and Paul for a concert last week, and it was absolutely wonderful - a great evening, not that we expected anything less. Great singing from both of them and amazing guitar and banjo work from Paul. Also, very entertaining and amusing in other ways. To encourage you to go even more, ours is a new series of concerts and there are quite a few people who are new to folk music, as the owner of the pub is encouraging his regulars to attend. They came up to us afterwards to say how much they had enjoyed it and bought tickets for the next concert - convinced they will enjoy themselves. Don't miss them - you won't be disappointed. Cheers Keith |

Subject: Mick Ryan and Paul Downes, Edinburgh FC From: Johnny J Date: 19 Nov 08 - 10:34 AM Mick Ryan and Paul Downes, Edinburgh Folk Club, Wednesday 26th November 2008 Arguably, this might not be the easiest gig to sell up here but here goes...... Mick Ryan is known on the folk scene as a fine singer of traditional and original material. Folk Roots described him as "definitely the most underrated singer in the country". See also http://www.mickandpete.co.uk/ Paul has a rich musical background that has progressed through working with Phil Beer, The Arizona Smoke Revue, Pete Seeger and, currently, The Joyce Gang. Eight albums with bands, three highly acclaimed solo albums and over one hundred and fifty session credits have still left time for Paul to tour every concert venue, theatre and festival in Britain, plus many tours in the USA and Europe. Cabaret in the West Indies and newsreading on US radio are but two other strings to his guitar. http://www.pauldownes.com/ Venue: Pleasance Cabaret Bar - 8:00pm Admission: £7.00 (£6.00 concession), Members £5 However, I'm sure all the "singy", "Middle bar at Sidmouth" types will love this duo. :-)) So, please come out in force for this one. |
