Subject: Lawrence Blatt's Fibonacci's Dream From: katlaughing Date: 19 Nov 08 - 11:48 AM I have been hearing this piece of music by Lawrence Blatt on Pandora radio a lot, so I went looking for the CD. I have not listened to all of it, but Fibonacci's Dream, the tune, I am in love with! It has such an ordered, yet whimsical charm to it...it has grown on me each time I've listened. Perhaps some of you might enjoy it, too. To hear a snippet, please go to CDBaby. Also you can hear more of his music at My Space. Well, okay, I've listened while typing this. The snippet on CDBaby of Fibonacci's Dream does not capture what I love about it and I don't care for some of his other tunes, but I still love the sound of his guitars and obvious skill at pickin'. I would urge you to go to Pandora Radio put his name or "Fibonacci's Dream" in a station you want to create. It won't be the first piece you'll hear, but it will cycle through to play it. It is worth it, imo.{g} Here's his description of the guitars he plays: Any discussion of Blatt's music must include mention of his instruments. When recording, Blatt can be heard playing two "very special guitars." One is a custom steel-string guitar crafted by Edward Dick. "This guitar has a spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides. It's slightly bell-shaped body produces a warm deep sound. I waited almost eighteen months for this guitar to be completed and I worked very closely with Edward during the construction to build the guitar to my exact specifications." The other guitar is a small-bodied 12-fret parlor guitar made by Kathy Wingert. It was built with a German spruce top and Brazilian rosewood back and sides. "This tiny guitar packs a powerful punch and was the inspiration for the title track for my first solo CD "Out of the Woodwork." Incidentally, I created a station there called "Instrumental Folk" and having been hearing a LOT of excellent guitar pieces, esp. a bunch by John Fahey. LOVE his playing!! Men of Steel, Leo Kottke, and more! Great stuff! Reminds me of our own Justa Picker!! |
