To make a long story short, due to my mom's troubles last year, she no longer has the vast majority of her CD collection. Christmas and her birthday are right around the corner and I thought I'd like to make some additions to her fledgling CD collection. What I'd like to do is give her CDs by my fellow Mudcatters first, and then get some recommendations for other artists. I already gave her Bobert's CD, which she likes very much. Suggestions would be most welcome, as would where to purchase the CDs.

Thanks in advance.

Listen, ranger... What kinda blues does she like??? Okay, I appreciate that she likes my stuff but that CD is kinda all over the place blues wise... She like country blues??? Chicago blues??? Swamp blues??? There's way too many sounds to know what she might like???

Persoanlly, I'd recommend the folks who have influenced me the most which are Son House, Mississippi Fred McDowell, R.L. Burnside, Jesse Mae Hemphill, Archie Edwards... But that might not be her bag... I listen to it all so just zero in what she like and I'll make some recommendations...

Fat Possum have just released a 7 CD compilation of George Mitchell's blues field recordings. Around 170 tracks Many famous names including McDowell and Burnside plus many who are more obscure. The set retails on Amazon at $45.98 and has to be one of the best record bargains ever.

Your mum would be delighted.

Yes, the "Fat Possum" offeering would be great... Mostly country blues... Most Mississippi/Tennessee blues players...

I don't have it yet myself but I've heard about it and folks say it is great...

Another favorite of mine is entitled "Foot Hill Stomp" by Richard Johnston...
