Worlds of Trad Upload Alert November 2008.

First the good news. The November edition of Worlds of Trad is now uploaded, and will be online until Wednesday December 17th 2008.

Next the really good news. Those damned those Central Intelligence Agency adverts, which have been plaguing Worlds of Trad for the last month or more, appear to have stopped. At any rate, I've just listened to a complete cycle of the programme without hearing a single one. Should they ever return, do please let me know.

This month there's a bevy of Creole songs and tunes, including a rare version of the Lakes of Ponchartrain; there's a couple of tracks from Fellside's hot off the shelves double CD of vintage A L Lloyd, and we take a look at Fat Possum's new and massive blues compilation from the George Mitchell Collection.

The Dallas String Band, Sheila Stewart, Darby and Tarlton and Texas Tommy are all just itchin' to beat their way out of gaol; Buddy Thomas, Angus Chisholm, The Cullivoe Players, Tom Anderson and Hauk and Knut Buen blaze a trail of red hot fiddle playing from the Southern Appalachians to the Norwegian fjords via Shetland and Cape Breton; Frank Proffitt, Bascom Lunsford, Doc Watson, Lightnin' Hopkins, Brownie McGhee, Sonny Terry and Big Joe Williams warn against the dangers of sobriety; and there's a salute to a certain American presidential victory which happened in early November.

John Doherty, John Maguire, Kevin Mitchell, Seamus Ennis and Peadar O Cannneabhan take us on a musical tour of Ireland, and there's tributes to Donegal's James Byrne and Chicago's Studs Terkel, both of whom have just died.

Achik Nesimi will be railing against oppression, and Kevin Mitchell and Alan MacDonald will be railing against recruiting parties, while George Lewis will be bringing us a Winin' Boy Blues, and Tau Moe serves up a Hula Blues.
