Subject: RE: Best CD name ever From: Bainbo Date: 25 Nov 08 - 04:00 PM Apparently (according to Kathryn Tickell) the Northumbrian shepherds Joe Hutton (Northumbrian pipes), Willie Taylor (fiddle) and Will Atkinson (mouth organ) wanted to call their album Joe and his Two Willies. (This may not carry the same connotations for American English-speakers.) Anyway, the record company baulked at it, and it ended up being called Harthope Burn, after a local beauty spot. |

Subject: RE: Best CD name ever From: Folknacious Date: 25 Nov 08 - 06:42 PM "I think "Home and Deranged" was from the wonderful English Country Blues Band!" A member of which, Rod Stradling, had a solo album called "Rhythms Of The Wold" (he's from Stroud in the Cotswolds). And their label, Rogue Records, apparently put out a pair of West African compilations, one called "Jali House Rock" and the other "There's A Griot Going On" (I read all this in a letter in The Word recently, so I hope it's true!) |
Subject: RE: Best CD name ever From: Nick E Date: 25 Nov 08 - 08:11 PM While not folk (This being a folks site and all, thought the thread does not ask for best Folk CD tile) I just always liked... More Songs About Buildings And Food The Talking Heads |

Subject: RE: Best CD name ever From: Zhenya Date: 26 Nov 08 - 01:56 AM I'm a bit surprised no one has yet mentioned these 2 albums from the Klezmer group The Klezmatics: "Rhythm and Jews" and "Jews with Horns" |

Subject: RE: Best CD name ever From: GUEST,Surreysinger Date: 28 Nov 08 - 07:35 PM Folknacious ... it;s true, believe!! Ralphie - according to a posting that Gavin Atkin put up on concertina.net you very nearly ended up as the Woolwich Fairies ... or did you not wish to admit to that one?? Trawling through the thread at that place on a similar vein, I found mention of a Brighton group called "Christians in search of filth" ... rather liked that!!!! |
Subject: RE: Best CD name ever From: GUEST,Surreysinger Date: 28 Nov 08 - 07:38 PM Sorry - just realised this is the wrong thread .. its best CD not best band name (doh! easily confused,me ... however, the second sentence is relevant to Ralphie's observations, I suppose, even if the third ain't relevant to this thread .....) |

Subject: RE: Best CD name ever From: Colin Randall Date: 08 Jan 09 - 05:18 AM Another Leon Rosselson nomination: Wo Sind Die Elefanten? ..the phrase having been taken (or imagined; not sure if it was songwriter's licence) from a BBC Learn German book. Great title matched by the quality of the songs. |
Subject: RE: Best CD name ever From: GUEST,Musket Date: 08 Jan 09 - 07:33 AM After Elton John released his Capt Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboys, Mike Harding released his folk alternative; Capt Paralytic and the Brown Ale Cowboys. |
Subject: RE: Best CD name ever From: SouthernCelt Date: 08 Jan 09 - 09:33 AM I always liked Pat Sky's "Harvest of Gentle Clang." BTW, if anyone can tell me a legitimate source for a CD copy of this album, pm me. All I can find are black market CR-R copies made from the oricinal vinyl. Even Pat Sky doesn't know of a legitimate re-release source since he (as of a couple of years ago) hasn't authorized any re-releases. SC |

Subject: RE: Best CD name ever From: Midchuck Date: 08 Jan 09 - 11:59 AM I like Art's and the Pogues' titles, but I'm also partial to one by Gregg Keeler called Songs of Fishing, Sheep, and Guns in Montana. That covers about everything in the state. Peter |
Subject: RE: Best CD name ever From: Arkie Date: 08 Jan 09 - 12:15 PM I don't know if it ever was made into a CD but Mudcat's Bill in Alabama had a cassette some years ago with his family band called "You Must Be Present to Attend". The title caught my eye but I literally wore out the tape because I liked the music. |
Subject: RE: Best CD name ever From: Tangledwood Date: 08 Jan 09 - 04:56 PM Not folk but for a name contender "Bach in the Bight" by StringyBach has to be up there. For non-Aussies I'll just point out that there is a tree called stringybark, and the large body of water to the south of the continent is The Great Australian Bight. One of the tracks on the CD is "The Barque in the Bight". |
