Oh dear!
Anyway, to cheer you up, my Sounds of Folk programme on Monday will solely feature artists appearing at the Festival - including Eric Bogle, Bob Fox, Strawhead, Hamish Currie, The Young 'Uns, The Askew Sisters, Ken Powell, John Prentice - and a duo called Hissyfit. Have you heard of them?

Linda, how on earth did you do that? If you had been drunk you'd have bounced and not done any damage! Lesson learned!

One week left to complete packing.
I think, after perusing Soldier Boys' list, I should hire a 20foot container in lieu of a tent and get bunk beds.. and a compressor - (to power a water pump) to keep me above any precipitation that gathers!

This year I PROMISE to take advice on where to pitch the Te-pe!
Counting the days

And to Alio, special thanks in advance for booking the weather!!

Aaagh!! I've just seen all your messages, so I'll try to reply to all of them! Very sorry to have dropped off on the radar - it's been a hectic year. My wonderful dad died at the age of 93, then i went off to the Orkney folk festival, and I've just spent 2 wonderful weeks in France with my equally wonderful 4 grandchildren. All excuses I know, but there you are!

Anyone wanting a full programme of events, just email me on aliobrien@btinternet.com, and I'll send you one gladly. or anything else you need to know, come to that!

There is a ceilidh - it's on Saturday evening as usual in the Methodist Hall. No bar there - for obvious reasons - so just take your own refreshments in, inc alcohol. Hamish, we're ready for anything in Saddleworth!!!

It's going to be fine and sunny - I've booked the weather!

Soldier Boy, thanks for all the lovely comments - what do you drink?!!

I'll be MCing 2 of the main concerts this time in the Civic - Saturday night and Sunday afternoon - plus doing 3 live radio broadcasts with lots of the artists, inc our own Hissyfit and Ray Padgett, plus 2 other smaller MC events! So I'm going to be pretty busy, but not too busy to have a glass of Jamieson's with you all!!

See you all then - unless you're at Cleckheaton in which case I'll see you this weekend - I'm MCing the main concert in the Town Hall on Saturday night. It'll be lovely to introduce Eric Bogle and John Munro!

Ali xx

I would like the assurance of the Festival Committee that, should the weekend be fine, they will keep the mossies under control.
Particularly those in the region of The Museum.

Otherwise I will expect them to provide rain, as per usual.

Wellies ready. Mozzie cream ready, Hissyfit ready...

Apology gladly accepted, Soldier boy!
I look forward to meeting you there (if I get to make it myself).

But I do agree with you - it has been a smashing festival, a real highlight of the calendar every year so far (I've been to all but the very first Saddleworth!), and I'd not want it to lose all the goodwill and support it's built up over the years.

Subject: RE: saddleworth 2009

OK MoorleyMan, I apologise. I'm sorry. Just felt miffed when all I was doing was to bring back up onto the main page a site that had fallen off the page.
I did this so that this great festival would'nt risk losing out on potential 'attendees' by keeping it visible so it could get their attention - whether full information about the festival was available yet - or not.
At least if a notice of the festival is 'visible' and can be viewed it will attract attention from existing and 'new' punters who I'm sure will have the patience to wait for full details - especially when Alio has already explained that the organisers are stretched to the limit and that the website will be updated soon.
I know time is getting tight - but if anyone is still making their mind up about coming to this festival - don't think about it - just book it or put it in your diary and turn up - It's a smashing festival and you'll love it!

You're right Andy, the Saddleworth website is unusually lagging behind with detail this year. There's less than a month to go now, after all.
Soldier boy - (and hey, please let's not stoop to name-calling) my intention in posting originally was to spur someone into action to get some more information out there.
Too many festivals are leaving it very late in the day for getting a decent level of info out on the website (not just because of funding uncertainties, which we can all understand) and as a result are probably losing out on attendees simply because not everyone can make important decisions and arrangements (things like accommodation, getting time off work etc) at the last minute.

Saddleworth without rain would be like Glastonbury without mud!

The line-up for the main concerts is up on Safra's website now. Eric Bogle headlines on Friday night and Bob Fox on Saturday. No details of the other events over the weekend as yet.

I am in a quandry with regard to the weather at Saddleworth. It has the fiercest collection of mossies that I have ever come across. At least when it rains they stay at home.

Refreshing brings a thread back to the top and keeps it relevant,

Definitely not pointless - as otherwise it would disappear off the bottom of the page.
