I heard a snippet of this song in the YouTube video tribute, Robin Hall Remembered and I'd love to hear the whole song.

For now, can someone post the lyrics here, please?

Sorry, no luck with the lyrics - there's a few samples on the web, but I can't find any more than in the YouTube video.

Robin & Jimmy's version was on A'Roving on Decca 1962, re-released on Decca Eclipse ECS2126, 1973.

Also recorded by Nina & Frederik and a Guyana group called Korokwa. I was fairly certain I heard it sung by Belafonte, but I can't find any evidence of this.

The earliest recording was probably by The Caressor on Decca USA 17405B on 26/1/39. I think it's this track which appears on the Bear Family Records 10-CD set.

Phil

Time for man go home
Time for man go home
Time for man and time for beast
Time for man go home.

The bird in bush go qua, qua, qua,
Time for man go home.

That's about all the old memory can dredge up.
Robyn

Here's what is sung in the video (see Genie's link above):

Time for man go home.
Time for man go home.
Time for man go home.
Time for man go home.
It's time tonight. It's time tonight.
Time for man go home.
Hush the music. Dim the light.
Time for man go home.

My mum saw Harry Belafonte singing Time For Man Go Home in California in 1964.

My transcription from Spotify. Most lines are sung in call-and-response fashion, with Nina first singing each line and Frederik repeating it (as I have shown in parentheses) with some overlap. On the lines where no response is shown, they sing together in harmony.

TIME FOR MAN GO HOME
Traditional
As sung by Nina & Frederik on "Tt P Vol. 3" (2010)

Time for man go home. (Time for man go home.)
Time for man go home. (Time for man go home.)

It's time for man and it's time for beast. (It's time for man and it's time for beast.)
Time for man go home. (Time for man go home.)

The bird in the bush he call qua qua qua. (The bird in the bush he call qua qua qua.)
Time for man go home. (Time for man go home.)

Time for man go home.
Time for man go home.

It's time and it's time for beast. (It's time for man and it's time for beast.)
Time for man go home. (Time for man go home.)

Time for man go home.
Time for man go home.

Hmm-hmm-hmm.
Hmm-hmm-hmm.

[The same recording is also on Nina & Frederik with Louis Armstrong, "Formula for Love" (2013).]

Harry Fox Agency's songfile.com attributes the lyrics to Rufus Callender. The song appears on an album titled West Indian Rhythm-Trinidad Calypsos. No attribution for the melody.
Other sources say Rufus Callender (Lord Caresser) made calypso recordings 1937-1949. He was born in Trinidad. Here's his Discography. He recorded "Time for Man Go Home" on Decca 17405 in 1939.

oh gosh! what we lost, when we decided the folk song revival was about reviving folksongs rather than entertainers presenting folksongs.
